Homicidal Veteran Blood Angel Assault Marine

So this thread is here for general discussion about BA HQs besides named character.
I have always liked SM Captain/Chaplain, but there are so many people who recommended me to have Libby so I tested him.
Didn't like the results. Maybe I just screwed everything up, but I just think he didn't cover his point cost.
Yes, he saved couple of marines with Shield of Sanguinius and helped reg marines beat up few cultists, but that was sadly almost everything.
Now for next match I was thinking of returning to a Captain with LCs and storm bolter. But then I realized that the guy I'm going to play against plays Chaos and almost every time fields Sorcerer or even two and last time they hurted badly, so Psychic Hood might be helpful. So what do you think, is it worth the points to have 2 HQs in 1250p game? If so, should I keep them together or apart? If not, then wich one is generally better? What HQ choice is best for you?

The libby is the only BA character that can come close to covering their cost. Captains with LCs can't even hurt other ICs in 2+ armor.
I usually run one only HQ at 2K, because they are, in general, terrible.
Try the libby some more. Depending on your list, divination might be better. The libby is the best choice, because none of the BA IC HQs can hold their own against other most other list's IC HQ, so there's no reason to go down that road.

If you are taking 2 LCs and a Storm Bolter on that Captain, check the Codex again. The weapons have to be swapped, so he can't have them all.
What character to take really depends on what kind of list you run otherwise. The Librarian will be more and more helpful the more models you can get within 6" of him. At a low points level like 1250 you might not notice him saving much but that's only because there are less opportunities to make the rolls, they really start to shine higher up.
You could consider swapping out for Divination, and if you don't like the power you roll, go for Prescience - this affects both shooting and close combat so is useful wherever you put him.
If you just want a solid beatstick for the army, consider a Reclusiarch. He appears more expensive at first but when you consider he already has a power weapon, you're paying a minimal cost for an amazing ability to reroll assault misses when you charge. In the right unit (like Death Company or 10-men Assault Squad) this ability alone is worth taking him for, his own power is just icing on top.

I am also experimenting with this. I tried out the Librarian this past weekend with the Sternguard+Sanguanary priest in a drop pod, and ended up just getting the unit vector strike-d three times by incoming flying daemons. But that was my error in placement...
What I DID feel was that the Librarian HQ pretty much gave my opponent a free "Slay the Warlord" point, once his squad got killed out from under him. He did save some models, and the Lance did some damage at Str 8, but once it got to CC, he died fast.
The Reclusiarch option intrigues me. Might be a good pairing (as you said @Super Ready) with a large assault squad, and might let the Libby die without surrendering that Slay the Warlord point. But, as @Martel says, just another way to reduce my model count...

Yeah, BA HQs suck in general..... I use a Libby and keep him with devs and it works great. I usually keep him and the unit far away enough so that Helturkeys have to think about where they go. You can't be aggressive with libbys.... Unless he is in TDA with a Force Axe + Sanguine Sword. Captains are meh and too pricey, Reclusiarchs are good on paper but suck because of 6th. I also agree with Martel, don't bring 2 BA HQs. Ever. Lucarikx

BA HQs being so lackluster is what bums me out about double force org, actually. Like, there might be games where I'd like a fourth fast or elite slot, but having to waste 100 points to get it is just too much.

I am a fan of the reclusiarch, honestly. Throw him at a squishy target and punch through it.
In general though, yah, BA HQs are not great.

Typo, meant only one LC.
And about reclusiarch: I used to like him as well, I still do in a way, but as some of you (propably martel) pointed out, he's useful only when assaulting and that is something you can't guarantee. But I like him anyway, I get the point about captain, but what disturbs me most with Libya is that he has no Inv save and is and easy target for plascannon or two. But I guess that's what his powers are for

If you're taking double force org, then you can afford vanilla Tycho, and/or Mephiston. You can also take Corbulo who, while not a HQ unit, is a hell of a way to protect a Librarian. It's lower points limits that we have these problems.

Higher point values are not a valid excuse for throwing points away. Taking Tycho or Mephiston takes away points that could be spent on better units.
