Hi Dakka, I figured I'd try my hand at making the most powerful, spamtastic Ork build I can for a tournament I have coming up.
Since this tournament allows Forgeworld, there are... certain cheese builds that become available which seem extremely broken to me. Don't get me wrong, theres some good stuff in forgeworld, stuff that absolutely deserves a spot in the Ork codex, but IMO as it is its even more unbalanced than the usual game - something I thought impossible until now.
Let me know what you think.
HQ - 190
Big Mek w/ KFF, Cybork
Big Mek w/ KFF, Cybork
Troops - 214
Grot Blob w/ 29 Gretchin, 2 Runtherds
Grot Blob w/ 29 Gretchin, 2 Runtherds
Heavy Support - 1080
9 Big Trakk w/ Supa-Kannon
Fortifications - 85
Aegis Defense Line w/ Mounted Quadgun
=1584
Other points will be spent on... well, doesn't really matter tbh, it won't affect the list very much. Maybe another Grot Blob.
Strategy
SK-Wagons and Big Meks spread out, with as many as possible taking KFF saves. Then they blow stuff up with nine 60", S9 AP3 pie plates every turn. If some die, then I simply drop a few less pie plates every round.
The Aegis line wraps around and bisects one objective, with the other end getting as close as possible to a second objective. Gretchin hide behind the wall on the first objective, becoming invisible to most shooting, and the bisecting wall piece means that at least some will get cover even from barrage weapons. In the meantime, the Quad gun and second Grot Mob go at the other end. They nuke the crap out of fliers with intercept the moment they appear, and at the end of the game, bum rush another objective.
Aside from that final rush on objective #2, its entirely possible for this army not to move at all in an entire game. Its certainly something that won't take any skill at all to use.

Ahh man, that left my tongue dry. There's one thing for me that would make the difference between being good and ridiculous. Are the kannons ordnance? The double d6 roll for pen would make them crazy. (I suspect they are)
Flier heavy lists would be the bane of this though. 1 quad gun is no sure air protection and an army that can field a couple of fliers will be almost untouchable.

How are you getting 9 Heavy support slots?
Because... Pretty sure those are 1 per slot in IA8. And they're not in IA Apoc 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Yeah, they're ordinance. I thought that meant 'couldn't move and shoot' when I built the list, without that its even more ridiculous than before.
I felt kind of... dirty... writing up this list. Nine deff rollas is the sort of cheese I can get behind of. Nine Supa-Kannons is something I'd only use in a super, super competitive environment or against some jerkass that deserves it.
That said, this is round two for next Tuesday Rah . I'm thinking, run this 1650 list against your 2000 not-super competitive list? Though really I don't think this list deserves a 'proper' game - how about we just set up our armies afterwards and then play out turn one for each side... I just want to see how broken these damn kannons are.
If air is an issue, I can always swap out a few kannon for flakkagun turret things on some of the Big Traks. They're cool like that. Or sneak in some Dakkajets if I want to be a real prick of a powergamer.

Can they even take nine basilisks?
If they can, well, thats the most broken thing I've ever seen.

Jesus, I just looked it up...
Those guns at least, have some restrictions like minimum range. But still, I think I have a few ideas about how to run a super-competitive, non-forgeworld list now...

Yes, it's same as the rule that allows 9 big trakk where you take a ""squadron" of tanks. You can actually make an IG list @ 1650 very similar to yours, minus the bubble from the big meks.

But so does Supa-Kannon, no?

I dont think super kannon has a minimum. But the basilisks minimum isn't an issue. IIRC all it means is that the basilisk cannot fire barrage within that range. So in effect it becomes a medusa having to direct fire and then stuff can get cover saves from walls and the like.
Could so make big trakks with super kannons from converted basilisks, maybe with a flatbed out the back for the boys.
With ordnance, all your vehicles can move the 6" and fire them but everything else has to snapfire. Then against armour you roll 2d6, take the highest + strength for pen.
If we were to run this, I think I could come up with something that could stand a chance. The current lascannons but change everything else for sternguard vets and dreadnoughts in drop-pods with meltas and then for an HQ, pedro kantor so all sternguard are scoring units. Issue is I only have one drop pod.... But my current list could probably perform okay against this. Dibs on terrain placement though, all of it

Lol, all I want with this list is one 'proper' one round shootout to see how much of your army I can blow away on the first turn, as well as how badly they can be mauled in one turn if I go second.
As for the actual battle, I'm thinking I'll just trade-down the Supa-Kannons to Boomguns (36" S8 AP3) which is a big step towards fixing the damn things. Still ded killy, but I don't think its quite as game breaking.
Could so make big trakks with super kannons from converted basilisks, maybe with a flatbed out the back for the boys.
I was thinking the other way around. My big traks cost me five bucks apiece to build, and its easy as pie to scratch build some enormous cannons sticking out of them - it'd be much better to turn them into counts-as $100 Basilisk models than the other way around. Looted or Lost and the Damned Basilisks would be relatively easy to build, and can go well with either my Ork army or the Chaos army I'm starting to put together

Man that would be crazy, lost and the damned basilisk. Deep strikes in, take a pie plate to the face then has a 3+ inv.
Can give the super kannons a spin, I'm pretty sure that after 1 turn we'll have a good idea whats going to happen. Then could give the deffrollas a go as well.

Re-read squadron rules in the brb they have serious downsides.
Any unit that has multiple meltas or heavy weapons can screw you over pretty bad.
Example. Turn one the space puppy player drops two 5 man units of Wolf guard next to you. 10 combo meltas fire at two squadrons lets be nice and say 2 pens each. We will even disregard the glances. A damage roll of 3 or better wrecks a vehicle, and since the extras get put on the other vehicles in the squadron, you likely just lost 4 tanks on turn 1z. Probobly more if you count glances and the likelihood of more pens.
There is a reason IG players avoid squadrons if they can.
