The story states that Iceland's "center-right" party is forming the new government. I'm not entirely familiar with Iceland's political landscape so can someone explain what "center-right" means in the context of Iceland vs. the US? Thanks.

I believe it's the three families that literally live on on the center-right portion of the island, using longitude as the reference, versus the four families that live on the far right side, the two that live on the center-left patch, and the five bachelor fishermen that occupy the far left.

What counts as right for Iceland would still be considered radical left by America. Social conservatism in Iceland is completely dead. As in they've elected open homosexuals to be heads of government level dead.

Equal rights for homosexuals? We tried that here in Iowa once.

As someone who is posting this from Davenport, I assure everything in that article is 100% factual, unlike, say, CNN.

Thats probably more accurate then we know.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Basically Iceland is another in the growing list of elections in which the party that says 'austerity is causing hardship and only making the financial crisis worse' is winning office.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Uh, hasn't it been (in theory, at least) shown that there's some truth in that?

Yes, though not because austerity doesn't work but because wrong things are cut and wrong things receive continued funding.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Yes, though not because austerity doesn't work but because wrong things are cut and wrong things receive continued funding.

The arguments for austerity were based on documents whose proof was made by a clerical error misplacing decimal points in many key places.

Of course. Austerity can not fail, it can only BE failed.

Yeah, that's the stuff I'm referring to. I coulda sworn that the report most austerity measures are based upon has been very thoroughly debunked.
