Now I've been toying around with an army for an upcoming escalation league (which can be found here
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/523454.page). At my 1500 point bracket it was suggested that I bring a
GM so that my
DK and my interceptors would become scoring. Brilliant, I thought. That's all fine and dandy for the 1500 point bracket but I have the 2k bracket in mind. Now, I've ran paladins in almost every list I've ever ran from 500-1500. I'm no tactical genius by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, they have never let me down. I don't run them in bricks. It is usually just 2-4 of them deepstriking into the enemy's backfield. Either they draw a metric crap ton of fire before dying, they go on a rampage, or they do both. After thinking about this I concluded that I wanted to include a group of them in my 2k list.
Now my question is would Draigo be more effective than a normal
GM in this setting. The list would look something like this
OMI w/
TDA, psycannon and psyker 110
Draigo -275
Terminator Squad (5) w/psycannon 225
Strike Squad w/x2 psycannon, psybolts 240
Strike Squad w/x2 psycannon, psybolts 240
Paladin Squad w/2 psycannons 315
DK w/ PT
HI and
GS 260
Interceptor Squad w/x2 psycannon, psybolt 300
(The terminators are in the list because it's an escalation league and I can't take them out as they're in my 1k list)
I was told that taking a regular
GM would be much more efficient. However, I know that many armies are sporting riptides, vindicators, longfangs etc. Now wouldn't Draigo be much more useful than a stock
GM against things that appear in almost every
TAC list? Isn't that 100 points extra a good investment if he shrugs off just 2 lascannon blasts? In my mind the stock
GM is there
just for
GS. After that he just kinda mopes around. Sure you can give him grenades but any unit that you are assaulting (or have any business assaulting) could've been wiped out without them. I already don't want to go anywhere near hammernators. Sure, hes got an impressive stat line for
cc but If the enemy has a dedicated assault unit that they are hell bent on shoving down my throat I'd rather get as many psycannon shots on them anyway. So what is his use? I don't want to park him out front to tank as one failed invul save to the wrong weapon and
poof hes gone.
IDK maybe I'm missing something but it seems most people say that he isn't worth it unless you are taking all paladins. Then they say that all paladins isn't worth it either. Any thoughts?
PS the reason that I really want to run
TEQ is..well... I have them. I bought them because I love the look and the fluff. Also I got them back in 5th when they were still hoss. Now rather than shelve them I'm trying to find good uses for them. I understand strikes are better point for point.
