Hi Guys!

So I've just gotten some Tyranids and i don't have the Codex yet so I was just wondering what is a "Need to Know" when playing Tyranids and a bit of a Description

thanks

I can't really speak with much authority as I don't play them, but you've got a bit of an uphill battle with the current rules. Tervigons, flying tyrants, and the Swarmlord are really good, biovores, termagants and hive guard are good, and just about everything else is terrible. I recommend checking out this site:

They're a bit doom and gloom but you can get some solid breakdowns of what works and why.

Flyrants are awsome w/ Twin Dev. w/ BRL x2. They get 2 Psy powers off Biomancy.

Doom - Almost a must take in a spore pod

Hive Guard - 8str - 4ap Shoot around cover really good.

Zoans - Kill Vehicles dead 10str - 1ap lance or 5str - 3ap Blast for MEQ

Tervigones awsome troops

Harpies - Starting to really like them.

Biovores - strong strong vs Guard and Orcs and can do damage to MEQs

Synapse is key.

Give yourself good synapse coverage along your army, and know to look out for it. The last thing you want is an opponent knowing you've got a unit of Gants outside of synapse and forcing them to fall back. Synapse makes everything Fearless, use that.

There are times when you might want something out of Synapse, like getting Rage onto a Feed type creature, but just make sure you are the one taking advantage of units outside of Synapse, not your opponent.

Biomancy

You have access to a lot of psykers with Hive Tyrants, Zoanthropes and Tervigons. Take Biomancy, you won't regret it. Well, you might if you end up rolling Warp Speed or Iron Arm on Zoanthropes, but Enfeeble, Hemmorage and Endurance are possibilities for them which makes them extremely good. There's really no bad power to get on a Tervigon or Tyrant from Biomancy.

Everyone has given you good general advice but what you are seeking is more specific information, my advice is to Codex up because what you will want to know dakkadakka cannot substitute for you.

Unfortunately, it is against Dakka policy to post specific rules.

Really though, the Codex is the most important part of your army though. I would highly recommend getting it as soon as you can. You can probably even find it used somewhere.

In any event, good luck.

See the above 2 posts.

I'm sure if you have a nose about a tactica or similar might also be of help.
