How much difference is there between the mantic elves, and the warhammer elves. Just picked up some mantic elves form miniwargaming for dirt cheap and was wondering if they can mix and match. Even though I am in into 40k I have been looking for way to play the fantasy side of the gaming and not have to pay an arm and a leg plus my first born child!

It is the way of Fenris. We stay as long as we can. Fight as hard as we can. Kill as much as we can. Only when we can do no more do we move on.

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six!

They are significantly different in style and size.

Many folks justifiably prefer GW elves to Mantic's current elves. I own Mantic ones since I'm trying to support the company.

If you play Kings of War you can get away with using fewer models (fluff appropriate for most elves being a rare race) because you use movement trays that don't remove models.

For example, I have diorama style Mantic elf units that take up 4 x 5 20mm bases (20 models) but that only have 7 models on them. I field my archers in 7 man units in a 'V' formation and I think they look the part.

ok thanks for the info. might have to do the whole diorama thing as well. Plus I do like the simplicity of the mantic rules for a fun quick game based more on strategy instead of how much "special fluff" you can buy.

Mantic elves are way slimmer than GW and they are stylized very differently. I believe they are some of the earliest sculpts they have and look it. Price wise though they are a great steal and i do not find them hard to paint at all. The only thing that i don't quite like about them is the bases mantic uses but it is not any sort of game changer at all.

You could get away with them looking good if you use them for everything but the special characters but it will never match. The Kings of War rules look pretty good but i havent had a chance to play yet.

Not smart enough for witty signatures

I... like both... about equally - but they are not compatible.

For RPGs I handle that by having the Mantic elves as being the Shining Host - trooping fey from the shadows.

But... yeah, you can't really mix and match them.

The Mantic elves are thin, angular, almost spidery.

As I said, I like them.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

I've always liked the Mantic Elves, though consider myself in the minority when it comes to that.... Of course, depending on where you play, you can always use the Mantic Elves in WHFB.

Thanks to all the input i got. Do like the elves though, and looking at the rules for both might have to go with mantic set. My fantasy wargaming is more of a relaxing thing anyway and dont want to have t o mess with a bunch of complicated rules.

I like the Mantic elves just as much as the other company's. I also have elves from at least two or three other manufacturers. I don't think all elves need to look like clones.

May the dice be with you!

Rock on...... I got two elven warhost sets. looking into Warhammer, and King of War.... I think you can mix mach units, not models. SO I got on ebay and got the Warhammer starter elves to mix in. Giving me tons of spearmen, bowmen, and a king on griffon.

I do the same with the undead, which I think are much better looking models.

Out of curiosity whats the size comparison between twilight kin and GW dark elves? They look a little less spindly than mantic elves, is this true?

They're the same basic models as the Elves, but with metal cloaks that help bulk them out a bit.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”
