Since that weird FAQ, weapons can now only allocate wounds to the range of the longest ranged weapon in their unit.
So unit wounding with 12" range weapons can only wound models within 12"... but if there is a model with a 30" range weapon in the squad, then wounds can be allocated up to 30" away (as long as they can hit models within 12").

This came up in a game for me yesterday... do markerlights also have the same effect to 'extend' the wound allocation range of other weapons in the squad, even if they do not allocate wounds themselves?
Does the longer range weapon need to hit in order to have this effect?

What's confusing you?

Q: When making a Shooting attack against a unit, can Wounds from the Wound Pool be allocated to models that were not within range any of the shooting models when To Hit rolls were made (i.e.half the targeted model are in the shooting models’ range, and half are not)? (p15)
A: No.

Is it a shooting weapon?
Is the guy with the markerlight firing, thus making him a "shooting model"?

Yes. It doesn't need to wound, or even hit. It only needs to fire to extend the wound allocation boundary.

Markerlights are weapons now, they even have a profile. So yes they would work for this rule. The old markerlights would not have worked imo.

The only limit is - you cannot even roll to hit if the models are not within the range of the weapon.

Situation: Closest enemy models are 27" and the squad has 10 24" range weapons and a Markerlight.

Result: Only the Markerlight can roll to hit.

Now, if the closest models was 23" away and the farthest 30", then all of the enemy models would be viable for taking wounds.
