Alright so I played a game with my bro and his crons with 1850 pts.

My list
HQ
Farsight-165 pts.
2 bodyguards w/ dual plasma and target locks
1 bodyguard w/ dual fusion and skyfire
1 bodyguard w/ dual fusion and target lock, 4 shield drones-total 596 pts.
Bodyguard w/ Puretide, Multisensor, and C and C node
Commander with drone controller- 93 pts.

Fast Attack
x2 7 marker drones - 168 pts.'

Troops
x2 6 fire warriors 108 pts.
Elite
Riptide w/ interceptor, and stim injector Ion accelerator, fusion blasters: 210 pts.

Heavy Support
Railhead with longstrike and disruption pods - 190 pts.
x2 3 broadisdes with HYMP, SMS, and interceptor, 1 team had 3 shield drones, other had 2 - 480 pts.

Necrons (rough estimate)
HQ
X2 lord with res orbs

Troops
x2 10 immortals w/ gauss and night scythes
13 warriors

Fast Attack
5 wraiths w/ particle casters

Elite
2 triarch stalkers

Heavy support
Doomsday barge
Doomscythe

Alright didn't get any pics so this may require some imagination

Deployment: Board was pretty plain, open field, building in each board corner (4+ cover for each) deployment was just me on one side him on the other

So he won the rolloff and started by camping his heavy destroyers and wraiths behind leftmost building, placed his triarchs in the middle with his warriors, and his doomsday barge to the left of the wraiths. Scythes are in reserve

I placed one broadside team in each building to cover most of the field, placed a marker teams behind broadsides (commander attached to marker team 1) Placed riptide in middle to draw fire from my broadsides, and hammerhead off to the leftmost side to combat the doomsday barge.
I failed to steal the initiative

Pregame thoughts: I was a bit nervous about his army rushing me and swamping me before I could get farsight into the fray, aside from that I was pretty confident
Mission: Relic

Turn 1 Necrons
Movement: Starts off by marching warriors and triarchs up toward objective. Everything else stays put.
Shooting: Triarchs and warriors open fire upon my riptide, the riptide failed his fnp for one heat ray shot but aside from that was fine. Doomsday barge launches its large blast at my riptide but he saves it on his invul. Heavy destroyers also shoot at riptide but he just shrugs it all off with his invul and fnp.
Assault: nada
Tau:0 Necrons:0

Turn 1 Tau: gotta be honest I was feeling pretty good with the riptide taking all those wounds, sadly my opponent realized he could just ignore the riptide and open fire on everything else
Movement: riptide hops forward, marker drones also move forward. Hammerhead moves for his jink.
Shooting: Hammer head targets doomsday and pens on him and immobilizes him. Broadsides open fire on wounded doomsday and put down 6 pens and 4 glances (needless to say the barge was massacred) Other broadside team gets help from marker team and wipes out 10 warriors. Riptide hops in and finishes off the last 3 warriors
Assault: marker drones hopped back to cover and riptide backs up
Tau:1 Necrons:0

Turn 2 Necrons:
Movement: His 2 night scythes come on along with his doomscythe, the doom moves to pop my hammerhead while the two nights rush the relic and my broadside team, dropping their troops on the relic. Triarchs stay still while heavy destroyers and wraiths rush forward
INTERCEPT!!!!!!: alright so my riptide and 2 broadside teams work together to kill his warlords immortal unit
Shooting: Remaining immortal unit, nightscythes, and triarchs murder my broadsides with extreme prejudice. Doom scythe fails to hurt hammerhead but the three following destroyers blew him to kingdom come.
Assault: nothing
Tau :2 Necrons: 0

Turn 2 Tau: Well as I had feared a wave of scary necrons was rushing forward and of course farsight decided to have a tea party instead of deepstriking onto the board. and my two fire warrior teams came on near his remaining immortal unit to hopefully cause some damage
Moving: Well my riptide hoofed it forward (get it? TAU HAVE HOOVES!), while the marker drones got ready to mark up the immortals with the warriors.
Shooting: Markerlights and fire warriors work to take down 2 immortals......Nice job guys really
Assault: Riptide has had enough of the silly necrons and decides to charge the triarch, triarch fails to do anything while the riptide pretty much tears the thing in half (3 pens)
Tau:2 Necrons:0

Turn 3 Necrons
Movement: doom scythe pivots and runs toward my riptide, two nightscythes move toward fire warriors. Wraiths get ready to assault my broads
Shooting: fire warrior teams are murdered to death by combined shooting from immortals and night scythes
Assault: Wraiths move in to finish off broadsides, lose 2 of their number to overwatch but proceed to rend through my entire unit.
Tau: 2 Necrons :1

Turn 3 Tau: Alright so I gotta be honest after my riptide killed the triarch I pretty much just looked at my brother with my trademarked "you got beaten by tau in cc" look. Was extremely effective. Farsight finished his tea party and decided to hop into the enemy territory.
Movement: RIptide moved up to get clear shot at immortals, markers also moved into position to help him out.
Shooting: Riptide kills 7 immortals with his blast, while farsight and his skyfire fusion suit shot down a nightscythe, another fusion suit blew up the last triarch, and the two plasma suits finished off his lords immortals.
Assault: Farsight jumps into enemy deployment area to secure linebreaker
Tau: 3 Necrons: 1

Alright so my bro conceded at this point as he had to leave for work and he knew I had a very good chance at victory. So Victory for Tau!!!

Notes: I noticed my farsight unit works wonders when it actually decides to come in, and the riptide soaks up awesome damage and when it works with markerlights it just goes insane.
Liked the marker drones for their jsj, Broadsides did well to cause some early game damage, Hammerhead died early so not much there but ah well.

Overall I would have won as my bro could only have gotten slay the warlord and nothing else (no more troops to take relic and no first blood) and killing the farsight unit is tough, also I had enough guns left, (riptide and farsight) to kill his last units (doomscythe, destroyers and wraiths).

So overall really fun game (my first one with new codex) and I must say I love the new farsight greatly along with the riptides. Well thats all HOPE YOU ENJOYED!!

How many times have you used the bomb?

I dont see why everyone drops the bomb instead of starting it on the board. Its 900+ points of your army that missed out on half the game...(well in your case it missed 2/3 of the game, haha!)

why do you personally like to do that?

My guess is that people like Farsights warlord power "Through Boldness, Victory!" because it lets you deepstrike without scatter with his unit....yeah its basically the oppertunity to strike in the middle of the enemy at the risk of never comming at all.

Yeah I was actually considering using the comms relay. And as for the farsight unit, its about 1/3 of my list but if I can get it off (with a comms relay I should be able to) it causes sweet chaos.
The unit is like my lance I generally use it to obtain linebreaker and if his warlord is in a tough unit I use it to kill that unit. But honestly its an awesome unit. I mean in one turn it killed a night scythe, a triarch stalker, and finished off an immortal unit.

As for the bomb I had always used it in the last codex just cause it was so fun. If I run into an army of bikers or speed freaks I will probably just deploy him but its just the surprise factor of a not scattering deepstrike unit that helps to psychologically put your opponent off. This unit really shines against camping armies however (guard, other tau etc.) as you can just go deepstrike into a tight corner and take out his deadliest vehicles/units (devastators, russes, basilisks etc.)

Cool report, very easy to follow the action! Thanks for taking the time to do the write up!!!

I really like the concept of running a suit with no weapons and just sensors, its something that didn't occur to me until I saw it in a battle report last week! It feels very very Tau and unique (I can't think of a codex that has a 60+ point model that for all intents and purposes can't fight).

Needless to say I would recommend more troops in your army but I think you know that already.

- 4000
- 1500 6th ed codex: 2 wins, 1 loss, 0 draws

I think you might need to check the point cost of your riptide because it seems it's a fair cheap for what you run on it, but great battle report!
Poor necrons have it rough against the new tau. If you have 2 spare points I recommend the neuroweb system jammer. I helped a tau player running a far sight bomb against some dark angels the other day and when his salvo 4 LR crusader opened fire it too 2 hull points off.

I've been prepping a tau list and I have been on the fence with the far sight bomb. My current plan was to just attach him to a crisis team to save on a ton of points and run 2 fission blasters on 2 of them for some tank busting and one fully duked out in flamers to be the bane of infantry

yep my riptide is 5 pts. cheaper than he should be. Thanks for catching that!

My revision for my army that I was considering was to replace my hammerhead with 2 individual suits with dual fusion blasters for tank busting, and then grabbing that aegis line with a comms relay for efficient deep striking.

Riptide is actually 15 points low, core cost, plus stim(secondary cost), plus interceptor, plus accelerator

Armies I play:
-5000 pts
-2500 pts
Mechanicus -1850 pts

It cannot be 15 pts. 170 base + 5 (accelerator) +35 (stim) +5 (interceptor) that is 170 plus 45 which is 215. I wrote 210

Riptide is 180pts base cost. Your riptide should cost 225.
