I'm playing my first game tomorrow, I think I'm just gonna have them roll on from the edge, they move 6 inches which is much faster than the walkers.

My only concern is that they can only move onto the board 3" (5" on a road) turn one. It might put you a step behind the enemy in regards to objective searching. Your force does look pretty tough otherwise though. A good denial tactic will hurt the opponent something fierce. Good luck!

Also, please let us know how your game went! I am extremely curious to see how the Juno A1s did without Neptunes. I had never considered using non-dropped ground transports prior to now.

Nice job. I love the style of the PHR mechs, I just wish they were much bigger, maybe 2x the size they are now. Id buy the heck out of them if they were 50-60mm tall.

Whats my game?

Song of Blades & Heroes

Yeah I ended up having to adjust what was in the army because it totalled like 1600+ points before even buying a commander. So in the end the a1's flew on and the a2's drove on.

I'm a lazy lazy man so I will be doing a pearly black with a metallic detail on all the none carapace stuff. I'm gonna get the army all lookin that way and then add a second color for the dome-ish shaped parts that they all have in common, probably a very very bluish grey or desaturated blue. I tend to value consitency overall, I also really don't want to take too much time. I find all the paintjobs in the rulebook to be at an amazingly high level BUT the stuff like the fine edge highlights isn't really needed, you only tend to notice it when the model is being photographed at 2 or 3 times it's actual physical size. I think doing a very glossy/pearly black will give it natural highlights simply because all the light in a room is generally coming from the ceiling. Heh, well we settled for about 1500 points. It took like 6 hours but 80% of that was just looking stuff up and making sure we were following the rules. A big chunk was spent making lists, the list building side of things is good for balance (hard to spam anything) but I find it far too involved but that might change over time.
In the end it was a tie, we both held a single objective. I made a big mistake by dropping my units off too early and not playibg agressively. It was a lot of fun to play and I see great potential in it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Mad4Minis wrote:Nice job. I can see them adding super heavies in later expansions. A lot of peopl have taken issue with the ferrum drone base for the ucm, no other army really has access to something that large.

Thanks for the reply! I would love to see a copy of the list too, but that is just a bit of nosiness on my part.
How did the Enyos work out for you? I have never seen them in action. Instead I usually find myself facing down Taranis.

The enyo's were cool, I lost one to a scimitar but it was pretty late in the game. Thet spent most of the game shelling the central building with the vital objective in it, they're very good and messing up buildings but they're short ranged against armor. I do wanna pick up a few taranis tanks, they seem like fun and maybe a bit cheaper.

Taranis are not as reliable at destroying buildings as Enyos, but they are cheaper, can bombard buildings fairly well, and also serve as a deterrent to any infantry going to windows. Blast weapons against infantry garrisoning a building wall are horrifyingly potent. I find that the infantry suppression aspect is most effective against Scourge Warriors (whom I have seen decimate tank units that stray too close) and UCM Legionaries with Phoenix missiles.

Out of curiosity - what size magnets did you use there. I used mine but they are too small/weak to hold the walkers up. Yours seem to be just the right size
Please help!

Looks like a PHR Large Army deal army.
So you will need to make some additions:
1. Buy two more Phobos as a priority, though you could get two Helios instead.
2. Buy a pair of Triton A1 dropships, then retire half your APCs.
It would help you to place the four Ares in one squad and take the Phobos as a separate squad and carry them both on the Poseidon. Then you split your heavy walkers into the Neptunes and spread them around to where needed..
|

Yeah I'm a little miffed that the apc's are pretty much useless. My buddy who has ucm has the little dropships and it's pretty disgusting how quickly he can get into a building and off the board with an objective.

The APCs are not actually that useless, but they work best when paired with light drop-ships so that you have a mixture of speed and toughness. I have a Shaltari and UCM force and I love my havens and bears when they work in conjunction with spirits and ravens.
Edit: Now that I think more about it. It could also have to deal with local environment. Where I play we tend to use fast movers a lot. They make mincemeat out of light dropships.

Nice to see a big PHR army all assembled and magnetised. I'll get around to magnetising mine also soon.
Yeah, the APC option is way more durable. I've seen some battle reports where the dropship gets downed near the board edge but the APC survives and escapes.
Fast moving interceptors are definitely there to kill escaping dropships. I must try my PHR Athena interceptor soon.
Cheers,

You can go further on turn one by moving a medium dropship disembarking an APC 3" forward and moving that half than a half move with a light dropship.
Second APC's are better for recovery because you can start off within the enemy AA bubble and not care.
Light dropships are however cheaper and have a better selection of guns.
The Juno has been mostly fixed, it is a lot better than before, it could do with a 2pt shave, other than that ok. But the cannon needs a special rule or stat change to be useful. It looks like it ought to have some punch, and is written up that way too, yet it cant fight its way out of a paper bag with the gun its got. At least that is now better reflected in the price.
My suggestion was to keep E7 but give the gun 'breaching charges' being a low pressure gun. The idea behind the special rule is that the gun can be used to make an entrance so the passengers don't need to disembark at a doorway. That wopuld make the main weapon role relevant and we could forgive its poor firepower.

Nice magnet job, PHR is so easy for that. I have up having my UCM dropships carry any tanks. Darn Flying stand gets in the way.
I found the free on-line army builder is great for making armies faster, even prints the stats for your units.
