I was thinking of testing out a loadout with a broadside group where you have:
2 x Broadsides with Hyms
1x Broadside with railrifle + Target lock
The clue is that you still have a rifle for sniping higher armor targets regardless of the rest of the unit, just putting it up to see what kind of issues this might rise.
Personally i think having all 3 with Hyms might be a little too much at times, but the above set-up rounds into 200 points total without any further upgrades and give you a shot against AV14 in case that is needed and insta-gib T4 things for priority.
So any ideas?

Mathmatical the output from the HYMPs are much better then the Railrifle. The only really trade off is the inability to pen AV13, or glance AV14. (imo glancing AV14 is a waste of time, and with 4 times as many shots, glancing Av13 is pretty likely.) Being able to instant kill T4 models relly is negated by only being a single shot.
Overall, if you want to prevent using too many missile on a target, one model with targetlock and the other two with early warning ssytem is probably your best bet to get the most out of your unit.

Here's the best setup IMO.
Stick them behind a aegis with quad.
If you want bare take them all with HYMP, Smart missiles, and all missile drones.
Two have splitfire, one has interceptor
Take a kitted out commander with puretide, command and control, multi spectrum, gun drone, drone controller
And they can do one of the following things in each shooting phase:
kill a tervigon, dreadknight, 10 marines, 5 terminators, 29 orks, 31 guardsmen, 3 AV10 vehicles, 3 AV11 vehicles, 2 AV12 vehicles, 2 AV13 vehicles
And some.
Plus on interceptor they are killing an AV11 flyer after jink before it even gets to shoot, as well as doing 3 hull points on an AV12 flyer before jink saves. If it jinks, it's firepower is nullified until next turn when the rest of the broadsides down it.
I think that's the best way to fully kit them out. If you want to minimize their points, I'm not much help.

And range. 36" range is a huge disadvantage on a static unit.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I keep seeing the 36" range being complained about, but it really isnt that bad. I've played ~20 or so games with at least one unit of these in each list. All different manners of deployment and mission. I can comfortably say the 36" range has not once been an issue. If you really have to move and fire you can do things like move and use Markers to increase BS. I always take an Ethereal or two and often will move, run and then use Markers to boost my snapshot. It makes them far more mobile than opponents will expect, hell even without Markers Broadsides can do alright snapfiring due to TL weapons.
I tried out the HRR a few times and I was completely unimpressed. AP1 is nice and the extra range is nice, but it isnt close to good enough for me to ignore the extra shots I could get.

Peregrine is right, having to waste your marker lights to buff that unit is rather inefficient.
