So after trying out many different armies, It think I've finally settled on Orks. That being said I've never played a game with them yet and the only models I have are a battlewagon, 2 rokkit buggies and 2 big gunz (all of which I scratch built.) This is my first attempt at a list:
HQ
-Big mek 90pts (goes in battlewagon) KFF, heavy armour
The Deff Dread and killa kans aren't useful in this list because everything else will be racing to the enemy while they will slowly walk behind them, not reaching the enemy till late game or get shot to pieces. Remove them and take more lootas and/or trukk boyz. Other than that this will be a fun list.
It's fun to see someone taking wrecking balls on their trukks, normally a nob with PK and boarding plank would do allot better. Then again it's the rule of COOL!
As said above more speed would suit the list better, and as for dakkajets never take them allone You should atleast bring two or more when first taking them (talking about dakkajets take flyboss on it (fighta ace in the old WD) to get BS3 against everything!) What i think you should add instead of the kans/dread is more warbikers they are troop afterall. That is if you got the models for it.
Also Stikkbomb chucka would be no need for the orks, we are striking at Inniative two any way!
Reinforced ram is allot more needed, you get 2+ armor when tank shocking/ramming aand you get to reroll dangerous terrain tests wich is the most important part.
and last YER NOBZ NEEDS SUM BOSS POLES! They gotta show who's da bozz!

I think you should be careful and decide on what you really want out of YOUR ork army. Its all to easy to say kans, dreds, trukks and regular warbikers are weaker choices and therefore I should field purely shoota boys, lootas, dakkajets and maybe a couple of nob bikers since all those units are pure awesomesauce. If you want to go for the most competitive option then take those, but in reality if you are trying to play 40k for the sake of competition... orks may not be the best option for you. Generally I'd say its best to find an army identity/theme that you like and then go with that. Even if its not the best build, its still fun. Especially when its more challenging going against some other dude who's trying to be 'highly' competitive. But this is just my opinion on the matter, for instance I don't even own any loota, dakkajet, or biker models but have still run my green tide all the time and just take what I can.
That aside looking at your army from a competitive point of view:
Spoiler:
- Wazdakka is an expensive HQ choice with his main benefit being the biker troops. This has a problem in its own because to work the best, you need a large amount of biker troops. But the main issue is that regular bikers are more prone to leadership issues than other units because they are taken in smaller squad sizes. While their output is good, they may never get the chance to produce it. A regular biker boss would be better in this case.
- Shoota boys are good, I would suggest getting big shootas on them wherever possible. Taking a nob with a bosspole is advisable for units under 20 strong. A big shoota can be put on a nob and since he's a character and hits on a 6 you get to allocate the wounds (precision shots). Klaws are not entirely necessary on shoota boys but I would recommend a big choppa. They're cheap and good high strength insurance.
- Slugga boys are okay. Not terrific due to poor ranged performance but they are good in melee. In general however, shoota boys are still string enough to hold their own in a melee and still have good range.
- Trukks are very weak transports. Their only saving grace is their speed and this is due to them normally getting 1 turn (maybe 2) on the table before they are gone. So its best to run them with no upgrades or a reinforced ram if anything for terrain rerolls to keep them cheap.
- Warbikers, mentioned before but they are surprisingly good at range. Maybe not that surprising seeing as they have TL big shootas.
- Warbuggies, weak but cheap. Often the preferred FA choice is the dakkajet, but due to their cost they can be taken in abundance and can function as a protective screen for vehicles behind. Speed also gives them flanking capability so with rokkits, are good against chimera chassis.
- Battlewagons like most transports are best when taken cheaply. Often the accessories wont see much use and as a result will not justify their purchase cost. Deffrolla is a good choice, red paint, big shootas and plates a reasonable choice and the wrecking ball an average option.
- Kannons are good, tough and can hit things.
- ADL = sliced cheese, but someone needs to pilot the quad gun. It is not autonomous.
To fit in with the style of what you've got, I think you should look at more battle wagons and warbuggie screen and then you could chuck some boys at the back for good measure.
battlewagon+20 shootas ~260pts
2 rokkitbuggies ~80pts
30 shoota boys ~215pts
3 kannons ~70pts (good to get a couple of spare crew)
KFF big meks ~90pts
ADL ~ 100pts
Gretchin ~ 40pts (quad gun pilots
Those are just the rough costs when I run them. For 1500 you could probably get 2 battlewagon groups, 2 rokkit units, 2 shoota boys units, 2 kannon batteries, a KFF mek, ADL and grots. Or if you want it to be more mech oriented you could cut down the shoot units into trukk squads and maybe squeeze in 3 of them.
If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush
Jesus Raph, your advice and mine is starting to look increasingly similar.
Expanding on the above post;
Wazdakka is garbage man. 4 Rokkit shots will miss more often than you think. I ran him yesterday in a fun game and was sorely dissappointed.
Shoota Boyz > Slugga Boyz overall. However, mixing in a unit or two of Sluggas into your Shoota Blobs can be really effective. Bosspole PK or BC Nobs are a must for Sluggas, and as Raph said, BCBP Nobs with Big Shootas are great for Shoota boys.
ADL + Kannons + Ammo Runts = re-rollable shots for the attached gun. I'd honestly say take a Lascannon over a Quad Gun, it gives better long range anti-tank than anything in the Ork Codex.
Units of 5 Lootas are not a good choice. Two losses and they'll run off the board 50% of the time. Bigger mobs, and if your feeling daring, a SAGBP Cybork Big Mek for leadership and dakka purposes.
Warbikers without a bosspole are a bad idea. Warbikers with a bosspole are also pretty bad - even if the bosspole keeps them on the board, you lose a 25 point model to do so!
Battlewagons should be kitted out to either bum rush the enermy with a deff rolla (lose dem shootas and maybe the plates depending on whats on-board) or to slowly drive up at combat speed all guns blazing (give it more dakka, lose the deff rolla and red paint)
Yeah, I'm really just trying to make a fun cheap army with lots of scratch built vehicles so I'm probably going to drop the bikers and wasdakka as the models are too overpriced anyway, why pay 100$ for 6 models. I'm probably going to for less infantry more vehicles even if it isn't that competitive.
I bought $2 toy tanks, stuck spiky bits all over it, and now I have nine "generic Ork vehicles" to use as Battlewagons, Big Traks, Lifta Wagons, and so on. Cost me like $30 all up for all the bits I put on there.
Yeah, I just built a battlewagon out of cardboard, old plastic containers from cherry tomatoes and some bits, probably cost me like 10$ including the hot glue gun. I also just bought a couple toy cars and built 3 convincing war buggies for under 10$ and now I'm building a dakkajet out of a cereal box lol. I just love the modelling epxerience of orky vehicles and so my army lists will reflect that greatly.
