Anyone owner of this FFG game published in 2009? It looks fun to play: The four Chaos Gods battling over the fate of Mankind in the Warhammer Fantasy world. Is it enjoyable for players who don't know the Warhammer background? I'd really like to get some peoples thoughts and opinions on the game before I purchase it.

I saw it getting played once and the board and figures looked really nice and all the players really liked it, including at least two of four who didn't know the GW chaos gods at all

Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

Its seems really fun. From the description, it seems like not only is each playing vying for positioning, mankind is banishing your troops back to the warp.

I'd love to get an opinion about how the game plays.

I like it quite a bit; of course, I’m familiar with the background, but I think even non-GW fans would enjoy it.

The gods all play differently to one another and the theme of each comes through clearly- Khorne wants combat, with widespread blood and slaughter; Slaanesh focuses on corruption, especially of heroes and nobles; Nurgle is slow-building and durable, and wants control over densely-populated areas where diseases can breed and spread; Tzeentch is focused on magic, on tricking the others and revealing his plots and plans AFTER everyone else has committed to their actions. The theme really comes through strongly, IMO.

I would say that the game definitely works best with the full complement of players. Two players is not that great, and three is playable but still not ideal. It’s not like Small World, which has different boards optimized for how many players you have. With too few players in CitOW there’s not as much conflict and direct competition as there should be.

Also be sure you’re playing with the errata from the website. Slaanesh is really overpowered and easy to win with if you don’t.
