Subject: New to campaigns and need some help

Boom! Leman Russ Commander

Alright so I have a friend coming back in the summer who plays nids and I play IG(with new SW allies). I saw the big Campaign between Chaos and guard in the back of the BrB and was kind of inspired to do a campaign. Only problem is where to start?
I saw that they have a planetary campaign bored and thought that could be of some use.
But really I have no idea of how to start this and am looking for ideas. I suppose to start off we would use the planetary campaign and board and play on one planet to start off.
Where do I start for rules as how to go about the bored.
To start of Im looking for something pretty simple and not to complicating.
Thanks for the help!

There are several different types of campaigns out there. Not all of them need a Map/Board. In fact, I wouldn;t buy anything without looking around a bit first.
1. Simple Battle Campaign-
As the two side play battels the winne rof the previous battle gets a small bonus for the next game.
2. Ladder Campaign-
You have a series of pre-planned battles. if one faction wins it leads to the set-up of the second battle. If the other faction won, it would lead to different battle set-up.
3. Map Campaign-
You fight battles to control part sof a map. Some campaigns have you move proxies ont he game board and collect resources to refill yoru army list. others just have you fight battles and the winner chooses a mpa space. They can be complicated or as easy as you want.
For a first timer, I recommend a simple, narrative Battle Camapign to get hte hang of things.

Now as I am an IG player and my friend is a tyranid player the big question is where do we start? sorry for the generic vague question but I would love to try a campaign but honestly have no clue of where to start lol.

If you have access (if not you cna make up your own rules) I think the logical place to start is with a Planetstrike Scenario.
1. If the IG win, the next mission is a "mopping up" of Tyranids that made it to the ground. That means the IG might have a small points bonus, or be able to purchase an Inq as an HQ or something like that.
If the IG win again, then this leads to the Tyranids ambushing small pockets, but having fewer Synapses or Monsterous Creatures. If the Tyranids win, the next battle might mean that you fight the scenario below.
2. I fthe Tyranids win, the next battle is the Tyranids harassing IG troops withdrawing the the capital. This would be a Rearguard action or a mission wher ethe IG are trying to get off the board, while the Tyranids are advancing.
If the IG win, then they are allowed to play the next battle with more fortifications. If the Tyranids win, they are assumed to have infiltrated the Captial and a Cityfight ensues.
Then, depending on who wins or loses from each sceanrio, what would be the logical follow-on action? Does that make sense?

I know I had a narrative campaign in that same style, Easy E.
Started with a Planet Strike then went through a couple normal games with modified rules for Offense/Defense
An Apoc game was in the middle for multiple players to win some bonuses in the end two scenarios.
The ending two scenarios were a normal 40k game and a Cityfight.

Finally got around and really liked planet strike so my friend and I agreed we would start off with a game of that. After that we look towards the tyranids attacking scouting parties of the guard so we have some small based games. Then we will have some games where the tyranids attack small defenses of IG units in bastions and aegis lines. We will even come up with games where the IG counter attacks and the tyranids will have ambush rules and what not. City Fight does seem llike it would be fun to player, are there a lot of big rule differences with it?

The current rules for City Fight incorporate 'Assets' much like Apoc does. Some of them are very interesting and fun to play.
Some allow you to reroll to hit rolls while occupying the building because it has an ammo supply...etc.
I find it amazingly fun if you can support a City Fight with proper terrain.
