Subject: Mycetic Spores and the Doom of Malan'tai questions

While Mycetic Spores are technically drop pods and transports, they are however listed as monstrous creatures. The question we came upon during a game was whether or not they counted as a denial unit for objectives. I landed about an inch away from an objective and the squad inside eventually killed. My opponent made a last turn move/run to secure the objective but the spore was still there. We ruled that since it isn't listed as a vehicle it could still deny. Your thoughts?
Second question involved the Doom of Malan'tai that game. On his turn he moved out of my 6" range, shot at me, then charged in. On my turn, the last of his units died to the soul leech ability at the beginning of my shooting phase. The question was then asked whether or not he could shoot this turn as he was locked in combat at the beginning of the shooting phase. We rolled a dice for it and ruled he couldn't shoot this turn but again, what are your thoughts?

The Spore can contest as it simply can't score. It can still deny and get linebreaker !

Spore Pods can deny Objectives, take Linebreaker etc. by virtue of being Monstrous Creatures and not vehicles.
Here, because he's no longer locked in combat - he can shoot. Only those who are locked in combat are prevented from shooting (usually), not those who were locked at the beginning of the phase.

All units are denial units except for the exceptions for denial units that are on page 123 of the BRB.
(Keep in mind that a Mycetic Spore is not a vehicle). Does a Mycetic spore fit in the parameters of being a denial unit? Automatically Appended Next Post:
Why can't it score, I thought the Mycetic Spores were troops choices.

Because their rules specifically state they cannot score.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Well that clears it up then. They are not scoring units. Thank you.
