The only difference is that it actually takes you back when you miss it

So I had more or less stopped 40k all together for a short while now. Haven't done any wargaming for a month, and prior to that I had really slowed down my hobby stuff and had sold off some things as well. I had been thinking about getting back in again recently though. I at first decided not to because of the price, and began looking at other games like Warpath, but was put off by the lack of a playerbase. Then, I had a look through the new Dark Angels codex just for nostalgia's sake and instantly fell in love with the game again at the first full-page artwork. So, I'm officially coming back into the game!

Since there's no way I'm returning to Space Wolves, and since I got pretty burned out from building my Dark Eldar, I'm going to start up a new force; most likely Dark Angels, although I'm looking at Imperial Guard and Orks as possibilities as well. Before I even start designing a project though, what things do I need to keep in mind for 6th edition? What works well and what doesn't? What kind of list will have me stomped into the ground game after game like my Space Wolves were, and which kind won't? I'm mostly going to be building this army based on style, theme, and what I like, but I also want to win to be able to win at least like 40% of the time.

And final question, would anyone strongly advocate not even coming back at all? I'm still a bit hesitant due to prices and whatnot.

My friends and I have always laughed at how warhammer can sometimes be like relationships.

My buddy has gone back and fourth playing Eldar for years and years and we always joked that for him, Eldar was like that old girlfriend he just couldn't get over and kept going back to.

6th edition. Its gotten shootier.

There are different types of power weapons, so realize that when you are giving your sergeants power weapons. There is a difference between a sword and a mace.

Take melee options as support for your shooting and you should be fine. Play to the objective game and keep your eye on the ball.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Naw, games aren't like dames at all.

Games don't care if you play around wiith another one.
Games don't care if you have two or more in play at a time.

Now, GW is like an abusive partner. That you keep going back to (unless you get counselling or learn that there's other company out there that's better for you.)

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

GW is evil.

1. Flyers are cool, so people tend to save up and buy one, despite its stats.
2. Because you bought the model, you have to play with it at least once.
3. You soon learn that flyers played right they give you a tremendous edge over your opponent, since given that there are no proper ground-to-air counter.
4. You buy 2 more flyers.
5. You field 3 flyers, dominate the game, force your opponent to rethink his/her army.
6. Your opponent figures out the best way to counter flyers is with another flyer.
7. Your opponent buys a flyer. And 2 more at that.
8. As the games become more even again, you begin to think you need more anti-air, but you already filled up your 3 fast attack slots. Oh, but wait! Hey, this shiny new thing called ADL is pretty good for AA and it gives you cover! You buy. IMMEDIATELY.
9. Your opponent groans once again. Now he/she needs an ADL.

So flyers fight flyers, ground units fight ground units. Game stays status quo, GW rakes in ridiculous amount of yash.
Evil I tell yah. EVIL.
