I'm a new player, or maybe a to-be-new player. It might take a while for me to throw my army together, but planning is free. So I'm going for 1000 points to keep down the number of models I'll need to get. I've decided to run a mechanized army, cause running some Boyz in Trukks sounds cool. I'm also running a deathstar, because I like grandiose units of supreme power.
HQ
Warboss
Power Klaw
Warbike
Cybork Body
Total: 135
Big Mek
Kustom Force Field
Total: 85
TOOPS
12 Slugga Boyz
Ork Nob w/ Klaw and Pole
Trukk w/ Reinforced Ram
Total: 153
12 Slugga Boyz
Ork Nob w/ Klaw and Pole
Trukk w/ Reinforced Ram
Total: 153
11 Slugga Boyz
Ork Nob w/ Klaw and Pole
Trukk w/ Reinforced Ram
Total: 146
ELITES
5 Lootas
Total: 75
4 Nobz
Bikes
Painboy
Cybork Body
Boss Pole
Big Choppa
Waaaagh! Banner
Total: 255
ARMY TOTAL: 1000
Somehow I managed to make the entire army come out to be 1000 points exactly. The Warboss will roll with the Bikernobz and be my deathstar. I'll roll them up the center to draw fire from my squishy Trukks. The Big Mek will ride with the squad of 11 Boyz and try and give them a bit more durability with his Kustom Force Field.
In a bit of an aside about general Ork tactics, after much reading and talking with friends of higher wisdom on how to build armies, I learned one very important thing about Orks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jrxyt4gzyQ
Jim Carey would play Orks.

Dont drop the nobs!!!! the nob bikers will destroy face.
I have run several lists similar to this. I would recommend battle wagons with deff rollas. Having been skeptical I had to try them out.

I probably won't put Battle Wagons on this list, because I would pretty much have to cut a squad of Boyz with it's Trukk. They are on the top of my list when I expand to larger point armies. Right now my Boyz are my scoring units. Well them and my Lootas, but I don't want to move them.

For 1k points i would say more boyz inbefore nobz, the nob bikers do the real hurty stuff at 1,5k+ Also do have in mind, your nobz are troop choise(because of your warboss) thus making them scoring aswell.

I like it.
Don't drop the Nobs, and run them as troops as phatonic said.
Personally, I'm not sure about 5 Lootas. The squads so small that just 2 losses will have them run away like 50% of the time. Then again, they are the only thing in your list that could reliably do something against air.
Aside from that jackass that will run multiple hellturkeys or whatever at 1000pts, you should be able to handle anything here

A little recommendation would be to drop the Lootas for now but add them in at 1500+ when you have the points for large numbers of them. I'd also say use the left over points to beef up your Nob Bikers with another big choppa (replace the bosspole for it) and add in a power klaw while adding a bosspole and attack squig to your warboss.

I like the total opposite reactions the Nob Bikers get. I think I'll stick with my current set up, and retool it as need be. I'll keep on eye on the Lootas and Nob Bikers, and see what works. I have a few options to take away or add more to either of those units. Thanks for the feedback.
