Anyone used these? What did you think? GW ones are the easiest for me to source, and I'm quiye tempted for my new Warpath army.

I've used the dirt and sand ones and found they add a little texture to an otherwise bland base. However you do need to drybrush another colour over to it in order for it to stand out effectively. Personally while it is quicker than using a sand texture yourself I have found it to have a less dramatic impact. Two examples from my own gallery, first is with GW texture paint + Dry Brush:
And Secondly Sand, spray prime and dry brush:

Pumice gel does the same thing, you just use a hobby knife or piece of card to spread it.
And you don't even have to pay GW prices! it comes in a huge tub that would take years to use up. I use the vallejo white pumice to great effect for dirt or sand.

I've been considering messing around with textured pastes, as well. If/when I do, I'll be avoiding the GW pots, purely based on cost. Vallejo has several good offerings (pumice gel, oxide paste), but I'd have to order them online. If you have an art and/or craft store nearby, though, textured pastes are used frequently enough in acrylic canvas painting that the common brands (Liquitex, Golden, etc.) usually have few to choose from. That's likely the route I'll be taking.

Don't buy them
I saw them, and had a good laugh in the store, 12ml of textured paint? wtf is that for?
Use artists acrylic texture mediums. The come in much more sizable bottles, for better value, and are not pre defined to be any colour. Theyre clear and intended to be mixed with paint or applied alone and painted over. (or both as we will probably want to do with them). Choices of textures are out there, 'Black lava' is a popular one for basing models.
You might think that its just sand mixed with paint. Its not. Feel free to mix sand and paint for this job but it will wreck whatever brush you use, so dont use your pride and joy for it.
The artists texture mediums (and the citadel texture i presume) are textured with things that arent so abrasive on your fine quality brushes and suspended in quality acrylic medium (debatable for the citadel stuff )
edit; I'm working through a pot of this right now
http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/item-galeria-mineral-texture-gel.htm
its particle size is a bit large perhaps like a small pebble for 40k scale, next time i think il go for black lava or something else thats finer, but its

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Whatever type and brand you use, textured paints are very easy to use with comparable results to sand+glue+paint and a quarter of the time investment. Also, they're great for covering slotta bases and filling in gaps in terrain pieces.

You'll get much better value out of the Vallejo ones, don't bother with the GW ones. You can easily order them online. They are useful as an extra tool but I wouldn't recommend basing models entirely with them.

I prefer glue sand and cork to make nice bases. The textures stuff is good for rust effects and such
