Was talking with my friends at my FLGS and the toptic of Markerlights were brought up. It was suggested that the hit from a Markerlight is enough to force a Flying Monstrous Creature in Swooping mode to take a Grounded Test.

Grounded Test:
If a Flying Monstrous Creature that is Swooping suffers one or more hits from a unit's Shooting attack, must take a Grounded test immediately after the Shooting attack has been resolved.

The idea that a Flyrant could be downed with a laser pointer is hilarious.

The other question that was raised was could a Sky Ray force a Grounded Test with its Networked Markerlights before it fired its other weapons. Becuase it resolves the Networked Markerlight hits before it shoots its other weapons to make use of the counters, could it force two Grounded Tests?

I personaly say no, but I would like to hear other opinions.

The shots are still coming from the same unit and from the same shooting attack so only 1 grounded test.

I guess it could be "argued" that while a markerlight is a shot, is it an attack?

Regardless of that, I read it as yes they take the test for a Marker hit.

Yep Markerlights can down FMCs, but only if they aren't wearing sunglasses. As for your second question I'm not sure, but it seems to me like you'd only be able to cause 1 as they're part of the same attack, (and you'd definitely only cause 1 if said FMC had sunglasses on).

You know what really bugs me? When my opponent, before they show up at the FLGS smears themselves in peanut butter and then makes blood sacrifices to Ashterai by slitting the throat of three male chickens and then smears the spatter pattern into the peanut butter to engrave sacred symbols into their chest and upper arms.
I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

I keep checking to see if there's an updated FAQ for Tau, since this is the first thing I expect they'll take away from us. But for now, it still flies.

Markerlight hits cause grounding tests.

Grounding Tests are resolved after the unit resolves its Shooting Attacks, therefore, NO, you cannot ground with a networked markerlight and then shoot normally at it with the same unit.

I thought you only took grounded tests if you suffered an unsaved wound?

If this is the case, markerlights would not cause grounded tests as they don't cause wounds.

But yeah, you take tests by being hit, doesn't matter if you wound or not, IG flashlights are sometimes unable to wound FMC however they are used to bring them down due to the volume of fire and relying on hits alone to force the test

I've always found it odd that Markerlights can cause a grounding test, but Vector Strike cannot.
