Hey fellow dakkas!
My gaming friends and i have been playing for the last 4 months or so, using the reguler missions. However, we have been playing with every single unit giving victory points when killed, or destroyed.
We have now found out that we, and especially I have been kinda(very) wrong about this.. So i just wanted to ask any of you for some correct answers..!
In Purge the Aliens, you do get victory points for all units, and independant characters..?
In all the other missions, how do you calculate the points then? Does troops, seeing as they are scoring units, award a victory point?
And in Big guns never tire, and the scouring, do heavy support units give victory points, and fast support in the scouring?
I know that this might seem like a silly question, but i just wanted to be completly certain so i can tell them how it really is the next time we play..!
Thanks for your help!

You only get VPs for killing units in those missions that say so. The others, you're trying to capture objectives instead... Aside from First Blood, killing enemies is just to get them out of the way

The missions are pretty clear on what generates points. If they don't say you get points for killing troops, then you don't.

In Purge the Alien, you get one victory point for each enemy unit you kill (unless the unit has rules which modify this, such as the Lone Wolf or Tau Ethereal). In Big Guns Never Tire, you get one point for each unit you kill that occupies a Heavy Support slot in your opponent's FOC. (Not ones that occupy the Heavy Support section of the codex.) I can't remember if you get a victory point for killing Fast Attack choices in The Scouring in the same fashion. In all the standard missions, you also get a single victory point for killing your opponent's warlord, and the first destroyed unit of the game awards a victory point.
Other than that, the only thing you get from killing your opponent's units is a perverse satisfaction and what can almost be described as a tingly feeling.

Remember that any unit from the HS or FA section of the codex grants a VP when killed in Big Guns or Scouring. Doesn't matter if they take up a force org slot. If you have a unit of Devastators with a Rhino in Big guns, both of those units are Scoring, and each is worth a VP if killed.

But isn't the Rhino from the 'Dedicated Transport' section of the codex?

Dedicated Transports are considered to belong to the same portion of the Force Org as the unit that purchased them.

Ah cool. Just found the relevant rule on page 109. Interesting!

Dra'al nacht: Yes, but they are not the same unit. The Rhino is a unit on its own, explicitly so on pg. 109.
So in a mission where Heavy Support grant VP, both the Rhino bought with the Devastators AND the Devastators are a unit worth VP.

Thank you. Yes, I was well aware that the transport is a separate unit, I just wasn't aware that it was treated as belonging to the same Force Org category as the transported unit.

That goes both ways, incidentally. I routinely run a Land Raider purchased as a dedicated transport for my terminators (making it an Elites choice, rather than a Heavy Support one). I've found that I get more mileage out of not giving up a victory point from it than I do in having it be a scoring unit.
