Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Trying to put together rules for a WIP conversion.

Was initially (and might still) make up a Bad Moon themed character, but while messing around came up with a Orkimedes idea, so wanted folks to have a look, pick out flaws and any points issues. My main query is, does he capture the character of the source material, well based on what limited info there is and if I have under or over pointed him.

HQ - Orkimedes [300pts]

WS 4
BS 2
S 5
T 5
W 3
I 4
A 4
Ld 9
Sv 4+

Wargear
Gyro Powerspike - Counts as a Powerklaw (that rolls an extra D6 when attempting to penetrate buildings discarding the lowest)
Kustom Mek Harness - Adds +1 S and T (already inc in profile) a 5 + Invulnerable save and gives him a Kustom Big Shoota (Str 6 Ap 4)
Boss Pole

Special Rules
Independent character, Mob Rule, Furious Charge, Waagh
Ork Mek Boss - Deff Dreads and Killa Kans in Orkimedes army count as Scoring units. He may also take One Deff Dread and/or a unit of Killa Kans as a Troops choice. May repair a weapon Destroyed or an immobilized result or restore a Hull point on a 2+ once per turn if in base contact with the vehicle.
Da Teleporta - One unit may be placed in reserve as a Deep Striking unit. Upon arrival on the battlefield due to the experimental nature of the Ork tech all members of the squad must take a dangerous terrain test.
Pikboy - the former Grot assistant of Orkimedes, brain fused with the harness in an advisory role. Pikboy controls D3 rokkits each game, they count as normal rokkits in all regards except they are one shot weapons and use Pikboys BS 3 to shoot. Pikboy may not shoot while Orkimedes is in close combat as he hides behind the harness mechanism.
Mek Mob - may take a bodyguard of Meks, this counts as a HQ choice without taking a slot. May select up to five Meks as per the Burna Boyz squad. Each Mek may also upgrade eavy armour at +5pts, take a Boss Pole at +10points, a Grot Oiler at +3 points.

Any thoughts?

Why is he 300 points? He's a mediocre support, mediocre fighter, and since Kans beat Dreads any day of the week, his buff isn't helpful in terms of list building. He also can't repair hull points, something a regular mek is capable of.
Really, he's kinda worthless. I'd never take him.

Well thats the point of the thread, trying to get ideas. Oh and I know I over pointed him, rather have him over pointed than being massively under pointed. Taking a leaf from the Forgeworld guide of pointing units there.

Cheers on the two notes however, missed the repair hull point, and will modify to include Kans.

He is certainly orkish in his ruleset. I would like to see more of Da Teleporta expanded. In a suitably orkish fashion I would make rolling doubles on a deep strike scatter be random effects.
double 1's - each model in the teleported unit must take 1 str 3 hit for deep striking too hard. scatter as normal.
double 2's - Orkimedes aim was off, deep strike the unit onto the nearest model (friendly or enemy) and both the ork unit and whatever unit they hit each model takes 1 s4 hit with no saves allowed. These 2 units are immediately locked into combat
double 3's - each model in the teleported unit must take 1 str 4 hit for deep striking too hard. scatter as normal.
double 4's - Da Teleporta worked amazingly well and Orkimedes may pick whatever enemy unit he wants and place the ork unit immediately into combat with them. The enemy models in the unit take 1 s4 hit immediately with no saves.
double 5's - each model in the teleported unit must take 1 str 5 hit for deep striking too hard. scatter as normal.
double 6's - something goes horribly wrong, the unit teleporting is completely vaporized by Da Teleporta and must be completely removed

Something like that. Needs moar orkiness.

I'd say they can teleport into enemy models, but if they do so then for every model in the enemy squad they hit, 2 orks are instantly destroyed. However, that model instantly takes a S7 AP2 hit because an ork or two just materialized inside them.

I reckon change that double six to incorporate the Sploosh result from the Shokk Attakk Gun! Rather than vapourizing them, it's turned them inside out and exploded them across the battlefield!

Gotta say I agree with the idea of overcosting ones special character rather than risking undercosting him. But even so, 300pts might be a bit higher than I'd price him at.

Let him take Kans as a troop choice? I'd pay 300pts for him then! Maybe dreads and kans in a force that includes Orkimedes can take like, KFF or Zapp Guns or something else from the higher tech end of the Ork wargear list.

You've inspired me to put pen to paper to finish my own Mekboy character. Feel free to come comment on him as I'll be posting him up soon

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

I like the mod to Da Teleporta rule, will note that up and put in the first post shortly.

Will also add a unit of kans to his Troops option rule as he is the best Mek out there.

Orkimedes has been impossible to find. He's not going to be wandering around a battlefield.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Well aye according to fluff, but that's not something I'm too worried about, or something that would bother me in regards of either taking or creating him as a character.
If you consider some of the current official Special Characters are fluffwise already dead, or in Draigo's case MIA, I don't see that as too much of a stretch.

Sorry for acting like I'm 12 years old, but I laughed so much when I read the name "Pikboy".

Hence why multinational input is so great: viewpoints you would never hear otherwise... will try not to bring up toothpick in a conversation with the Danish.
Will need other nationals to point out words in the English language that seem really wrong.

ON TOPIC - OrKamedies I would figure he would be big and have a more "refined" look compared to the large clunky stuff a Mek tyPIKally straps on.

I see what you did there!

I disagree, even if he is a refined ork, he is still an ork. Therefore, huge clunky things not only look more impressive to other orks, but by the ork imagination, they also work better (thereby somehow making it a reality).

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Heh, cheers for the language lesson there.

Although its a play on pipboy ala Fallout. I will consider an alternative to save sanity.

As for the model in question, he's about half done at the mo, green stuff and more tech to be added yet.
