Hi everyone. My friend and I just bought Island of Blood, and have never played WHFB before. We tried to play a game tonight, and ran into some confusion with the rules. I'm hoping some of you can help answer our questions.

During movement, do you "March" during the same phase that you declare charges? The March rule seemed to be listed after, or in the compulsory movement section, hence the confusion.

My friend's elf lord on a griffon charged into my rat ogres. When my rat ogres attacked, are they supposed to hit the lord or the griffon mount? The model has two sets of stats, for griffon and elf.

Where will a model's "ward" save be listed? My friend doesn't have the High Elf rulebook yet, he used Army Builder to make his list because the shop we play at was sold out of army books for HE.

Thanks very much.

If you have the rulebook, you'll note that you begin the movement phase by declaring and resolving charges. You march during the "remaining movement" part of the movement phase and it's done in lieu of moving normally.

Depending on the type of mount you can choose which to attack or can only attack the rider. For cavalry, beast and monstrous cavalry mounts you can only attack the rider. For Monster mounts (such as a Griffon) you can choose whether to attack the rider or mount.

A model's ward save will be listed under its special rules or in the descriptions of the items it has.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

Ah, great thank you. Yes, we each have a mini rulebook now. We ordered an extra, since IoB only comes with one. But, I was just confused about the Marching thing because it's right beside the compulsory movement section, so I was assuming that it happened then. It's a bit of a rough transition from barely knowing 40K to not knowing WHFB.

Compulsory is just that. You have to. Like if your unit is fleeing or other special cases. Like random movement special rule is compulsory. It's kind of like

1. Charge (yar!)
2. if you don't Charge, do Compulsory
3. if you don't do Compulsory, do Remaining (incl march)

Mostly you're charging OR remaining. So remaining is just like normal moves to setup for charges or otherwise move around the battlefield. Compulsory is the catchall for when you gotta move because of something other rule.
