Subject: New to the Game - 1000 and 2000 Lizardmen
Hey. Longtime player of 40k. Still enjoy the game but I don't know if a lot of 6th edition sits right with me so I, along with a few friends, have been itching to try something new. Anyway, I've only played one game of WFB, and it was probably 10 years ago with a proxied HE army made of little squares of paper. I have a basic idea of the game plays and a vague idea of what some of the armies do, at least those that interest me, namely Lizardmen and the Elf variants.
I've always had a soft spot for Lizardmen and I actually did buy the army book way back when in '02 or '03 when I first considered taking the dive into fantasy. This time I'm diving in head first with a more respectable income and would like some pointers on the army itself and in specific this list. I am aware that the current rumors point to Lizardmen being close in the pipeline but I figure a lot of the core plastics will remain unchanged, and I have a soft spot for metal models. As of this moment I have gotten 2 Battalion boxes, 10 Chameleon Skinks, and 2 Salamander Hunting Packs. I also have a Kroak, and Kroq'gar to use as a Slaan and Old Blood on a Carnasaur respectively once the points can support it.
I've done a ton of reading here and other places and below is the list I came up with to start at 1000k. I will primarily be playing two friends of mine, one who will be playing Skaven and the other will most likely playing Ogre Kingdoms. My brother my also be interested, is there any army you might recommend for someone who plays Dark Angels and Tau? Without further ado, the list itself.
Spoiler:
-HEROES-
Saurus Scar-Veteran [1] 136
-Gambler's Armor. Dawnstone, Great Weapon
I am aware the list is currently illegal because my heroes are over by a point. I'm pretty sure the people I'll be playing won't take issue, especially since this is a stepping stone to larger points where it won't be an issue. I'd like to keep the great weapon, but is there a different kit you might recommend to go along with it to keep the list legal at low points? I am looking to avoid Skrox units for the time being. I don't particularly care for the current model and I want to see what happens in the next Army Book book before I do a lot of branching out. Also while I'm not looking to tune against either the armies or the lists I'm playing, is there anything in particular I should look out for from either Skaven or Ogres that is particularly nasty against what I'm running?
Also I'll include the 2000 list I plan on running once we are more clear on the rules and have more of the models on hand. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion you can provide. I am very much looking forward to trying this out.
Spoiler:
-LORDS-
Slaan Mage-Priest [1] (Lore of Life) 445
-The Focused Rumination, The Becalming Cogitation, Focus of Mystery, Cupped Hands of the Old Ones, Battle Standard
I like the list, I'm a Saurus guy myself, but I have a few things to glare at. No offense
-you don't have a BSB: many a game I said to myself "Oh ld 8 cold blooded Saurus warriors will never fail a check!" And oh have I been wrong. Many games will hing on a single brake test and in those moments the re-role from the BSB is invaluable.
-Saurus warriors are pretty damn scary compared to, say, clan rats, dwarves and even chaos warriors. But you need something that goes OM NOM NOM! And units like Stegadons, Kroxigors and Temple guard all fit he bill. So I recommend dropping a Saurus block for one of those
- I love my Saurus dearly, yes I do. But I recommend that if you run your blocks 20 deep that you give them spears so that you maximize your attacks. It's completely optional, because if you find yourself getting the charge or loosing two ranks before you attack, the spears don't help you all that much.
-this last one is completely optional but I'd drop the chameleons and replace them with another salamander and some more Skirmishers. More bang for your buck.
Attack fast and with brutality, hold steady and unwavering, push the melee straight into the throbbing heart of your enemies and certainly your enemies bill buckle before your Will and fall before your sword.
