im in the process of bulding a riptide. three reasons for that.
1. the original riptide model is nice and everything but i feel that this little something is missing. no idea how to describe that feeling better
2. i love gundams and think that especially the AMX 002 Neue Ziel is one of the coolest models 'EVAR' ^^
3. i found this sweet Gatling gun produced by MSG, a gundam accessories manufacturer.

i wanted to hear your opinion. which model is better? both i would obviously paint fittingly to my army (a desert scheme) and add a few tau bits (seeker missile strapped to a shoulder or custom shield gen to one arm)





the neue ziel would be more menacing with its alien appearance and it would be mounted floating. the gundam would be more convetional but looks more dynamic.
what do you think?

I like the first one better (it's so beautiful :') ) but looks ridiculous with that weapon. It looks such a graceful craft, it shouldn't be encumbered with such a heavy weapon.

The second one looks much better with the gatling gun.

so true. i have a second neue ziel standing in my gundam collection ^^ but not sure if people would bash it for not being 'tau-like' if i want to field it as a rip tide.

You will probably meet TFG once in a while that will complain about it. But overall, ROC prevails. When you convert something and looks awesome (just like that Gundam ) people almost never complain. And they are your miniatures and this is a hobby about painting AND converting minis! As long as you have good-looking model with close resemblance weapons for the WYSIWYG rule, you should be ok. Even better, using that model with Tau bits would be perfect (not the gatling gun: The plasmas or missile pods).

Of course in tournaments you might have problems, but YMMV. You should ask at your FLGS.

I like the second one better, looks like it could fit into a tau army more easily. The first one seems more like the Eldar to me.

Agreed - the first one doesn't look Tau-ish enough. The second one is much better, although the gun looks a little large in proportion to the mech - you could consider shortening the barrels?

I agree, I think the second is way more tau like and looks better holding the Gatling cannon. The first one almost seems like it doesn't fit the setting, but it's still an awesome model regardless. Either way you go they both look sweet and will showcase the "rule of cool" very we'll.
