In the old rules, the Grim Warden was pretty much unusable. It seems to me that he has gotten a lot better with some of the new rules. I'm not saying he's a competitive tourney choice, but seems like a decent General.
He is a 3+ 5++ wizard, who can actually hit pretty hard. Magic Resistance makes him harder to take out with spells. Plus, if he takes High Magic, then he can now boost his own ward save.
You also get 8 hits with ASF, 4 at S6 and 4 at S5, plus Thunderstomp after.
The only big drawback, is that in most games your going to want the take a higher level mage. It's hard for me to pass on a Level 4, but I think it changes things up a bit. Most opponents plan on HE bringing the high level wizard to the table.
Anyone else giving him a second look with the new book?

The only problem I have with him, and all choices like him, is two fold.
First, he's expensive. He does a lot for his points, but by the time you put him on the beast, he is a damn pricey general.
The second problem is a list issue. If you take him as your only large target, then that's another problem. He is the only thing on the field screaming "kill me". Take him in conjunction with other equally deadly targets that also scream to cannons and such "kill me", and he works out to be better. A couple phoenixes, flying boats, or even a dragon, along with Eltharion, and I feel better having him around.

I've been actually thinking of using him and two hero level griffon nobles. Since we can now give the noble a griffon mount, I have a use for those IoB griffon lords.
The Frost Phoenix seems to be a great choice, plus with the ability to now run Silver helm and Reaver core. I see a very fast moving hard hitting army.
The only big issue being weaker against magic, but not horrible with all the wards and such.
I'm not really sold on the Skycutter just yet. I still think the Lion chariot and Tiranocs are just fine. ( Maybe I have to see how they do before I shell out for them.)

You sir are correct. I seem to have missed that before. It would seem that I would have to give him Life or Metal then. That would give me a chance for Glittering Robes and Searing Doom or Flesh to Stone and Regrowth if lucky. I do well with both of those Lores in most cases.

I'm really liking the "new Eltharion". But that's more because I bought him in his blind state to lead my mordheim warband which has now grown into a large Nagarythe/Hoeth army lead by Eltharion on foot.
Eltharion the Grimly blind and Belannar (loremaster with book) will soon be invading Naggaroth to recreate the short stories in the Age of Legends book.
