Just wondering where Malal went, they even had a chapter called the 'Sons of Malice' in the 5th Edition codex that was so blatantly based on the criss-cross black and white Malal colour scheme that it wasn't even funny, so what happened to him??

Serious answer: Legal issues.

I believe Malal, Zuvassin and Necoho were owned by another writer previously employed by GW, but not currently. Thus, legal issues.

Well this is all very depressing.. Why would you even want to keep hold of a character like Malal? Not like you could use him outside of the Warhammer universe (because he's already there...), and I'm really interested in him/she/it

Well, Michael Moorcock held on to the eight-pointed star, the war of Chaos vs Law, all the really nasty mutating effects of Chaos and the Warp... basically that entire pillar of the 40K setting... in his Eternal Champion novels (granted, all released long before 40K was a thing).

So, given that the concept of Chaos Gods and such is not, and cannot be, copyright Games Workshop, the holder of the IP is free to do with them what he wants... or GW can buy the rights to them from him, which they don't seem willing to do.

GW doesn't seem to want to spend any money on anything that won't make them cash any more, despite the fact they're a huge-ass company ._.

No, Zuvassin is GW's.

Zuvassin and Necoho are owned by/created by Graeme Davis. I was under the impression that Malal was as well.

He seems to still be a part of 40k canon.

I hadn't realized they did anything with either of them since Something Rotten in Kislev, it's not like they went back and erased everyone's 1st Ed WHFRP book to remove Malal.

I think he still gets the occasional mention, while Malal has been almost entirely scrubbed out.

Yep, and the Ancient Allies are two of my most-often-used Chaos Gods in other settings.

My Dark Heresy game, which has taken a decidedly Radical turn amongst the acolytes, is soon going to involve some characters getting dragged to the Cleansing Fires of Zuvassin. I may, or may not, have the Kindly Old Gent, the Avatar of Necoho, meet them.

I'm not sure I believe that the party will quite get it, though...

Oh, he seems like a cool concept, but not the sort of God that attracts a hell of a lot of followers xD Does he have a specific colour scheme? (Blue and gold, pink, red and gold/brass etc.) :3

Whatever his followers divine that Zuvassin has dictated as his colors, they do something different, because Zuvassin is just going to undo whatever the decision was in the first place.

If I recall correctly, he was mentioned in a short story anthology called Heroes of the Space Marines; the story's name was The Labyrinth. It came out in 2009 which wasn't terribly long ago.

Games Workshop plagiarised Moorcock without his concent or knowledge, it passed beyond the statute of limitations. they have openly admitted as much in White Dwarf articles, back in the early 80's few took science fiction and fantasy IP seriously, especially in the gaming industry.

GW made moves to copyright the Chaos Star, Moorcock drew the line at that and successfully forced them to accept the genericity of the symbol, he failed to protect his IP but was not going to allow GW to exclusively own it.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
