Subject: Are removed models more/less valuable?

So basically, a friend of a friend wants to get rid of his 40k stuff and I've expressed interest in buying his Necrons. Some of these models are Necron Pariahs which I only really want because I loved them in DoW and I might be able to convert them into Lords or something.
The question I have for you is: does the fact that a unit has been removed from the game make it more/less valuable?
P.S while I'm here, if you're willing, I'd appreciate it if you suggest how much I should pay for the rest of the models. He's also offering:
Monolith, removed from sprue, basecoated, semi assembled.
Warriors, assembled and poorly painted (although, I'd strip them even if they were painted well)
Destroyers, same as above
And of course, Pariahs, same as above

It really depends on the models.
I wouldn't expect Pariahs to be particularly valuable on the second hand market since they were never that popular to begin with.

Just judge it purely by its aesthetic as a model. Pay how much you'd want to for something to look nice on a shelf. Otherwise... I guess how much you'd want to use it as a base model to convert it into an extant necron unit, or perhaps for use as terrain?
As for everything else, having something partially assembled and primed or partially painted greatly degrades the value of the product. If the person were going to try and sell the models on eBay, for example, he probably wouldn't get very much for them, so you can offer a pretty low pricetag.
Unless you happen to like this person, or something, in which case you can cut him some slack. I guess the real matter is offering to pay a price that's high enough to get him to actually part with the minis. Otherwise, you're probably better off going to a place like eBay for your stuff.

As someone in sales...
*Anything* is worth what someone will pay for it. Value is always in the eye of the beholder.
Having said that, however, a good way to determine a fair market price for an item is to see what other people have paid for the same or similar items. Enter eBay. You can see at a glance what people are willing to pay for things there, although, I would say that ebay tends to be on the low side of things.
As to your question - how much should you pay? As little as he will let you!!!! I don't know how many pariahs / warriors / etc we are talking about here, but I'd offer him 20 - 25% of retail simply because my time is worth a lot to me, and stripping models takes a lot of my time. Give him $50 for the lot.

Depends on the model. Some OOP stuff isn't worth very much (it was OOP for a reason and nobody really cares about it), some OOP stuff is worth about its old retail price (there's demand, but not enough to drive up prices), and some OOP stuff is worth significantly more than its old retail price (some of the awesome high-demand stuff). Check completed ebay auctions and see what the average price is for the model you're buying.
P.S while I'm here, if you're willing, I'd appreciate it if you suggest how much I should pay for the rest of the models.
Maybe $20 for the whole package, if you're feeling generous? It's all easily available stuff and time is money. Unless you're on a really strict budget you really don't want to pay much for models that are going to require a lot of salvage time before you can use them. And be sure to take a careful look at the models before buying, poorly painted often means poorly assembled and once you assemble a plastic kit badly it's almost impossible to repair it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Personally, I like the look of the Pariahs, and would probably be one of those willing to pay to buy them (if I played Necrons...). I like OOP minis, just because I like using models that make people go 'huh.'
Can't really comment on the prices. I don't buy secondhand minis that need to be stripped. I've had enough of that crap to last the rest of my life. Generally speaking, when it comes to secondhand models, barring extreme circumstances, my offering price is a quarter of retail, and my ceiling is half of retail.

This I agree is a good guideline.

Well how was I supposed to feel after he framed me for his embezzlement from the business we started together, stole my wife and kids while I was in prison, turned my dog into chili and then fed him to me?
I've never really met him, we just have a mutual friend who got us in contact with each other.

A items worth depens on a few factors:
1. is how much of the item in question is in supply
2. how much desire there is for such item
And in this case, Quality of said model, In what state, and for what purpose.
So i guess you look up on Ebay and try to find prices, and if the price is something to are willing to pay to get said item its your choice, or in the case where you are selling, you could at least try the selling part of this forum to get a somewhat idea on what people are willing to pay.

Pariahs are decent Cryptek stand-ins. OOP models tend to be more valuable depending on the age and availability of them. For instance, Rogue Trader metal Marines often go for 5-10 dollars per dude. However, plastic 2nd edition "I love my bolter" Marines go for pennies since they're so prevalent. Pariahs weren't good in the last codex, so they probably ended up getting moved around a lot on eBay and trading sites.
I'm searching sold listings on eBay for Pariahs and they're going for $1-$10 per model. I'd probably go for something like $5 per to keep it fair.

Although hilarious, that's creepy close to what actually happened to a buddy o' mine. His business partner and best friend started boinking his wife while slowly draining their company. When my buddy found out, his partner took what he could and sunk the rest of the company and ditched the wife. Then my buddy's wife drove his brand new 911 off an embankment and killed herself and, more importantly, the car.
However, you come up with an elaborate ruse to convince your 'pal' the models are cursed and steer him in a self realization of giving you the models to break the curse.
Or stab him in the neck and take them.

When I sell stuff to friends, I do the following:
-Go to Ebay.
-Check the price.
-Maybe give him some discount
That discount is not because he's a friend, but because it increases the amount of games I can play.
