Warhammer Fantasy newbie throws together a battle report on Youtube, fielding an army assembled from a dozen or so Ebay orders. Third game ever, first over 1000pts.
Wow fantastic battle report. What program did you use to modify the pictures? Was it just powerpoint?
A couple of quick tips and i'm by no means an expert but I do play against an army that has an extreme amount of chariots often.
1) Get a slann, especially at 2500 points. Lizardmen are really designed to work around the Slann. Heavens doesn't provide the buffs you need (or magical killing power you need). Alternatively you could get a carnosaur. Either way you need that killy in your face lord unit at 2500 pts.
2) You didn't really make that many mistakes positioning your saurus. Saurus blocks will always get charged by fast units unless your opponent really makes a mistake. This is because they are MS 4. You need to either be able to survive the charge with buffs or be able to have something take the charge (ancient stegadon, and scar vet cowboys with the dawnstone come to mind). Believe it or not even your salamander can take a charge and survive as impact hits are randomized. Speaking of that
3) Salmanders are fantastic shooting but they are not terrible in close combat either. They are Str 5, have an armor save and cause fear. They are inexpensive. Don't be afraid to get them into close combat if it could be a better option than fleeing.
4) When positioning salmanders try for a cross shot, it was slightly hard to tell but it kind of looked like you had an opportunity to shoot across his entire army around turn 2/3 but you instead shot straight ahead. It is okay to shoot for an unengaged combat unit that would be close to the salamanders maximum range with the intention of burning closer units.
Other than that it looks like you did a great job and had a good report. You also found out why so many people think temple guard are a bit overcosted.

I don't have a Slann model (and i kinda think they're ugly), but I do have a carnosaur kicking around somewhere, so I might try kitting out my Oldblood some more - maybe even take two.

Yeah, I'm hearing this a lot... I've been treating them more like skink skirmishers and less like the monsters they actually are.

Yeah, I really misused them. I only got a total of 3 shots the whole game, and only a single hit from them (which failed to wound). I think maybe i need to push them out to the flanks, but I was worried that with their low leadership they'd panic from some shooting, so i kept them near my general.
Thanks for the comments, really appreciate it

Great Report!
I agree with what has been said. Slann are of course excellent, one thing that I use is a Skink Priest with Cloak of Feathers, fly him behind the enemies, then you can channel the Slanns magic right through him at whatever target.
and the Salamanders are so good. Just move them up with Skinks or along a flank and crossfire into units or throw some fire at the enemy.

You can only channel magic missiles through skinks. Spirit Leech is Direct Damage.
Best batrep I've seen. Ever. And I don't even play fantasy. Concise, clear and detailed, while still being short enough to watch without wandering off.
You sir should be giving lessons.
And the best part is you've obviously learned from your loss, which proves yet again that you're the kind of person geared to be a positive influence on wargaming everywhere!

Very nice report, as for tactical advice: alot has been said already, but I would like to say that using 4 blocks of infantry is quite alot, and imo you should not deploy so for away from each other. In the battle report both the temple guard and the Skrox Unit were held up by a small portion of his army, while he was battling your big blocks. It might help by simply taking less blocks, and make them bigger, or take a Slann for those points you save. good luck, hopefully we will see more of these reports
