Good afternoon(evening or whatever it may be where you reside) I've recently become interested in playing some modern war games, the two rule sets Force on Force and The Face of Modern Battle seem like great candidates to use for the smaller skirmish level games I am interested in playing with friends. However I'm not sure which would be the better choice out of the two, but am interested in any opinions my fellow dakkaites have about either ruleset.
Even better if you have experience with both and are willing to comment!
So I am basically looking for opinions on what ruleset is better at certain things and is overall a more enjoyable game.
Thanks!

I have only had experience of force on force which is very mission based book but i do like the rule system where all rolls need the same result 4+ iirc but you use different dice depending on how well trained your troops are.
For example d6, d8 or d10.
I really enjoyed the games i have played of this game.

FoMB is quite granular... Takes a while to get into it.
I cant say much about Force-on-Force as I helped design it and did all the miniature pics and wrote one of the supplements... So Im a little biased.

Hmm, haven't heard about FoMB so I can't comment on it.
All I can say is that FoF is a scenario based system. There are no points. You and your friends write a scenario and the forces involved, the balance comes from your writing and the objectives you make them need to complete. AKA, make the weaker force have easier objectives.

Just downt he page there is a nice report using the Face of Modern Battle rules. WIII Scenario I believe.
Anyway, here is a link to what he has to say about FoMB....

I have never played it, but am a big believer in FoF and Tomorrow's War. The Action/Reaction system in FoF is great, and keeps both players constantly in the game, making decisions. Also, the focus is on Troop Quality and not equipment and kit.

Force on force is great. Never have tried the other rule set. It works with all scales which is nice. I use 28 mm and 20mm figs for it
