Minnesota governor signs bill legalizing gay marriage
This makies Minnesota the 12th state inthe Union to pass marriage equality/Gay marriage. it is the first Midwestern state (Whatever that means) to pass it through a legislative action.
It is hard to believe that in the previous Legislative Biennial, the Republican controlled Legislature had managed to put a Consitutional Amendment on the ballet that would Ban Gya Marriage. In the 2012 election, the Amendment was defeated and the Republicans completely swept from power. Now, the Democratically (Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party) controlled state Legislature did the opposite and had the Gay Marriage bill passed and signed into law.
Considering on the National stage Republicans are still talking about appealing Obamacare, and have been working to dismantle tehe New Deal for the last 60+ years; they usually don't roll over so easily on an issue. Amazingly, I have not heard anyone talking about 2014 being a chance to vote back in Republicans to repeal the Gay Marriage law. At least I haven't hear di tyet. Maybe closer to election time.
The big lesson for me: In Minnesota at the moment, ALL elections have consequences.

This is probably most note worthy in that the Midwest has traditionally been a Republican voting block at the national level.

Except MN has traditionally NOT been Republican nationally, even if we are the home of Michelle Bachmann.
Locally, we are much more a Divided Government State, with this Legislative seassion beign a departure from our usual method. I would not be surprised it 2014 returns us back to divided government.

Thanks for trying to be helpful. I have just heard the Midwest with very different states associated in it. Sometimes Ohio and Indiana are included, other times not. Sometimes Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana are excluded. I'm saying it is a term with a very informal meaning. Kind of like The Middle-East.

My bad. I got Minnesota confused with Montana again XD Funny how you spend 10+ years learning the states and then you're out of school and you completely forget

I went with the US Census Bureau's definition.

This is how democracy is supposed to work, not by court fiat, but by the grinding change of public opinion, thus settling the issue.
