In a thread discussing a Tyranid list, another dakka member posted this:
Boys are fearless at 11 and above; however, when they take leadership tests they use the the number of boys in the unit up to 10. I'm pretty sure you can never take a leadership test higher than 10 so DoM still does his thing even if the boys mob is 30 or 10. They always use ten in that case
Now this was my understanding of the rules.
My questions is in regards to the Doom of Malan'tai. Due to Spirit Leech, enemy units within 6" of the
DoM take a
3D6 Leadership test at the start of each players shooting phase.
Boyz mobs above 11 are fearless. Now, their Mob Rule also states they count their model count as their
LD value (i think at least. I may have misread it)
I was under the impression no stat can go above 10. So I thought the Boyz were fearless at 11 models or above, and used their model count from 10 models down to 7 as their Leadership, and below that used their base LD7.
However, a friend of mine says that as they use their model count as their
LD stat, then a mob of say 24 boyz has LD24, meaning that the Dooms Spirit Leech has no effect on units of 18, as this will auto-pass a
3D6 Leadership test.
To Sumarise, who is right:
Me, Option A) Boyz mobs of 11 or greater are fearless, but have LD10 for the purpose of any Leadership tests (i.e. Spirit Leech)
My mate, Option B) Boyz mobs use their model count as their
LD value, and thus Spirit Leech has no effect on mobs of 18 boyz or more, and is very ineffective unless the boyz are down to 11 or less models.
Can someone clear this up for me? And can someone tell me where I might find the evidence to back up whichever answer is right?
