Picked up an army duffel from the resale shop a few weeks ago. It's similar to the surplus duffels I've gotten from family members in that it's the regular large style in OD with clip and Grommet opening at one end. However it differs in that it also has a pocket, backpack straps and some designations painted on it that I'm hoping you all can help me decipher

In two areas a rectangle of tan pant has been laid down. Over it various numerical designations have been added and a circle that is half black and half blue divided diagonally.

This is the markings on the bottome of the bag.

This is the marking on the side. Would be the back when worn as a backpack.

In case it helps, this is a picture of the bag laid out flat, showing the pocket and shoulder straps.

I don't think the markings are anything offensive, but I'd like to not be ignorant of what I've got on my back. Whatever they are, I think it's a nice find for 3 dollars!

While I'm not sure about the circle with slash thing, Jihadin may be correct on that.... According to most military map symbolisms for unit types, the slash oriented in that direction is reserved for Cavalry, or Armored Cav.

After some digging, due to recognizing the arrowhead design from somewhere, it belonged to 32nd Infantry Division.. which was shut down after WW2, and partially reconstituted as the Wisconsin National guard unit's largest Brigade, the 32nd Infantry Brigade.

I do also agree with Jihadin, that it is most likely a 3d Platoon, D Co.

Which, after looking at the 32nd BCTs Wikipedia page, would make some sense, this person could have been in 3d plt, D Co, of the Cav squadron..... The one thing that bugs me about that though, is that cav is ALWAYS red, with white underneath.

Also, the bag type that you purchased, IIRC, has been in army circulation since the Vietnam era. In theory (and I'm sure in practice at some point), the soldier's DA 1750, and deployment/PCS/etc. orders would go into that pocket, in case one were separated from the other.

Thanks for the info!

Can I use it as is or should I cross out some or all of the information?

As is. Unless you are in the military - that might get confusing.

- it's not like it's the dude's name or full social, and if he wanted it crossed out, he could have done it before selling it.

That brought back memories. *Checks* Yup still have mine too. Also, I was in a Cavalry unit and we didn't use the red/white to mark our stuff.
