Ok, so I am making a display board for my Grey Knights and didn't want the flying stand visable so what I have done is drill out 2 of the missiles and run 2 metal rods that run from the ground into the spot where the missiles were to give it the look of firing 2 of the missiles whilst being airborne. I have covered the 2 rods with foliage clusters to represent smoke from the missiles (which looks awesome) but I am not set on the actual explosion from the missiles.. Keeping in mind I want it all to look very realistic!
For the explosions Im imaging them as more of an energy looking explosion instead of smoke and fire typical explosion. The best Idea I have had is to by those round styrofoam balls you get from the craft shops, I cut them in half and roughed up the surface so it wasnt all smooth, it now has nice little bumps all over it.
Im not really set on this idea because there might be a better idea I havent thought of and the styrofoam isnt really strong and im not sure what its gunna look like painted up.
I could make a mould of the 1 styrofoam explosion and then cast some with resin or something which will solve the weakness problem but i dunno if I can be bothered now lol..
Anyone else have any good ideas on how to make explosions? particulary for mindsrike missiles?

im not sure where you would get one but if you could get a transparant globe and cut that in half then piant blue ligthening efects on the inside and then put a sekeleton / skeletons in amour on the inside but leave the gound and any plants untouched, making it look like its a ball of psycic death exploding out from the missile, if your feeling realy ambitios you have a moddel half in half out with the inside a skellybob and the outside bit the actualy model
