Hi, Dakkanauts!
I'm more of a roleplayer than a miniatures wargamer. I did play a bunch of
GW skirmish miniatures before I had kids (especially Necromunda and Gorkamorka), although even there I approached it with more of a
RPG mindset: "gee, my orks got their butts handed to them, but using a dental mirror and laser pointer to trace line of sight is a great way to immerse myself in the scene, and hey getting shot means rolling to see if I get a brain replacement, how cool is that?"
I've been involved in developing a new wargame system, Domains at War, which takes the
RPG layer and extends it into mass combat while keeping an emphasis on the actions of individual heroes. I've been playtesting it with hex and chits, but the lead designer uses stands of minis in the
Kickstarter video and it is 1000% more awesome. I'd be glad to meet folks in NYC or nearby interested in trying it out, and could be easily tempted into a skirmish league while I'm at it (especially if you're looking for someone who enjoys losing colorfully)!
