Subject: Tau Crisis Suits and their Drones

Recently I played a game against Dark Eldar and had a Farsight Bomb that I was play testing since I've never used Farsight before in my 5 years with Tau. As we were playing he was putting a lot of fire into my blob and when he would kill a suit would tell me to remove the drones that accompanied that model as well. I didn't really think about it at the time so it didn't become an argument, but I was wondering if in a unit with either Farsight or any commander for that fact brings a bodyguard and they in turn each bring drones do the drones die since the model that purchased them died? Or do they just continue on with the unit since in the New Codex you are no longer required to bring a drone controller to actually purchase them in the first place. Sorry if this has been answered in the past or is obvious. I would just really like to know for future games.

pg 33 of the codex...basically your friend is wrong. They are not wargear, they are part of the unit and infact he doesnt get credit for killing the unit until all the drones are destroyed as well

Well that makes it quite clear. I appreciate the reference. I just got the Codex last week so I have still haven't been able to remember all of the Tau rules yet, but I'll have to let him know next time I play him. Thanks!

Old codex rembembrance. In the old codex if a model with drones was killed the drones were removed as well.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
