Nurgle Veteran Marine with the Flu

Hey Dakka! So recently I moved, and I lost a LOT of my miniatures in the move, and I need help planning my rebuild.I once had an AOBR set, plus the Ork Battleforce and a set of Lootas, but now all I have is:
1 AoBR Warboss
5 Lootasw/ Mek
10 shoota boyz + Trukk
3 Bikers
3 Deffkoptas
3 Gretchin...
So, around 400 points. I want to bulk up this force to a good 750 points, BUT IT only have around $150 to spend. I want to get a fun playable force together, so competitiveness is no matter. What sets should I get (I'm willing to go to eBay and Amazon), and is it doable, or should I be looking at a more elite army, like Marines??
|
If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

I'd say hunt down an AoBR set on e-bay. You can usually get them on ebay with only marines/orks. If you can grab that up it'll help. It adds...20 boys? 3 coptas, nobz, and another warboss. That'd be best, and cheapest, if you can find it
else it depends on what type of army you want to make? You can make a 750 point army for 150$, but it is true that marines will be much cheaper to get (due to e-bay-ability)

You could Ebay up a BW or two, also.
Heavy points investment, and they do pop up on ebay from time to time.
Failing that you could buy job lots of boyz and grots on ebay, or buy someone elses army on bartertown or in the swap shop. I've generally had better deals in the Swap Shop than on Ebay, and 150.00 might get you a decent start.

$150 is about the price at which mostly unpainted/stripped armies go by on ebay. I would just wait for a good deal and take it. When you already have a lot of models those kind of deals become unattractive (I don't need another 100 boyz and 20 nobz on top of the 140 boyz and 30 nobz I already own), but for you, it would be perfect.

2 boxes of Lootaz and a box of boyz.
Use the parts to make 10 and 10.
Killa Kanz and Deffdread.
You'll have all the weapon options covered for the kanz and dred except multiple grotzookaz.
You'll also have enough mek bitz to make a temporary big mek.

False, you always need more boyz!
Anyways you can find listings on ebay for AOBR boyz for pretty cheap (well cheaper than GW anyway) but its not as cheap as it used to be since they dont make it anymore. Def. expand by getting more boyz and a big mek with kff imo (you can probably proxy that warboss as one.)

What I did was search for boyz lot on ebay, I ended up getting 40 boyz and a looted wagon for 72 after shipping (rounding out my boyz to over 100 ) otherwise Minaturemarket is a great place to get stuff =)

Meh. The maximum amount you can field is 180. The maximum amount I want to move during my movement phase is way below that. On top of that, 80-100% of boyz you find in e-bay collections are AOBR slugga boyz, but right now I would want shoota boyz. I'm happy enough with my 140 boyz to say that I don't need more

Try to get your hand on a complete AoBR box
1 Warboss
This can rather easy be converted into a Big Mek.
5 Nobs
You will need nobs in the Boy squads and just add some simpel power claws out of plastic card.
20 Boyz
You might need some more scoring units. Maybe add shootas to them?
3 Roflcopters
They can be converted into nice rokkit buggies (or even bikers).
1 SM Captain
Decorate your warboss base with it.
5 Terminators
Add ork heads and crude powerclaws and you have a nice squad of Mega nobs.
10 Tacticals
Orkify them, add heads and shootas and you have a nice squad of 'ard boyz.
1 Dread
Clue some ork stuff on it and you have a sweet Deffdread.
You might need a pack of normal boys or gretchin to get the pices you need for the conversions.

as said before, orks dont fitt together with ¨cheap¨ It's the most expensive (normal 40k) army there is along with tyranids.
Best bet would be ebay and discount retailers and local buy/sell pages. aobr is your friend!

phatonic wrote:as said before, orks dont fitt together with ¨cheap¨ It's the most expensive (normal 40k) army there is along with tyranids. What? Why? The only really expensive thing about our codex is getting 45 lootaz out of those boxes of four. Anything else is pretty much exactly the same price as equivalent space marine units, except that we get more models per box. Outside of MANz there is not a single failcast model we need in larger numbers than two. In addition, you can kitbash a lot of units, since half the codex is ork boy + wargear or random pieces of scrap + gun. Starting the imperial guard, eldar, daemons or even the infamous "every point costs a dollar" Sisters of Battle is a lot more expensive than starting any ork army.

If you are looking to get to 750 points and you already have that start to your army. no problem.
I Have total of about 1300 points in orks and I probably spent $200 total.
Get a couple more bikers, makes them nobs, get some boyz and bam, youre at 750 if not 1000.
ebay is a great place, but its hard to find cheap warbikers on ebay. seems like they are highly sought after. I found a guy offering a couple cheap dakkajets though

Makes me sad. People shouldn't sell Ork's they should be buying and expanding them for the great WAAAGGGGHHH.

Does your venue follow GW modeling rules? If not, scratch building BWs/truks/dakkajets, ect out of yard sale/thrift store toys is a great way to stretch an army, make it look unique and make it competitive.

I'll never part with my core Freeks but I've got some older Orks that I could help you out with on the cheap. The models are equivalent to the Ork battleforce, a Custom Warboss, a custom WIP Trukk and I think a couple Coptas that could help you on your way. PM me with your email and I can send you some pics if you're interested - my wife would love to see them go!
