Subject: 6th Ed X vs Y: Rifleman dreads or Dakka-Preds?

In 5th, the Rifleman dread was the obvious long range, high ROF, heavy support unit. It could out maneuver and out gun the efficiently priced dakka-pred.
Now in 6th, AV is more vulnerable but can fire at full effect longer. Also, tanks are faster and still get to snap shot while on the move. Do these changes make the Dakka-pred a better choice than the Rifleman dread?

Well, I guess you're talking about vanilla Marines.
The GK Rifleman Dread and the BA Dakka Pred would be preferable.
But between the ordinary variants its just a tough call.

I like the dread better for C:SM, because then that leaves heavy support for thunderfire cannons or vindicators. Both ignores cover and STR 10 are more valuable than whatever perceived advantage the dakka pred might have.

This is a big part of my reasoning as well as its just easier to hide the dread too. But the dread doesn't get lascannons so there is that.

I think that for the price the predator is slightly better. Not only is it 30-40 points cheaper but also av13. With the potential to put out more shots if it stands still. It's hard to say without seeing a list around it. As you said it's like comparing X to Y. Dreads are more flexible and are able to take down light to medium armored vehicles as well as be anti flyer in a pinch. They are also decent anti infantry but excel at light vehicle killing. Preds on the other hand are better for pure anti infantry and light anti vehicle if there's nothing else to do it. That's my opinion at least so YMMV

Personally I feel the two units serve very different purposes. The Rifleman takes out light mech at distance very effectively, while the Dakka Pred is great for taking out infantry, especially those with 4+ saves or worse, Fire warriors, GEQ, Ork Boyz etc. Really it's an apples to oranges comparison in my mind

I feel using a heavy support slot on a dakka Pred is a kinda weak. I didn't think we were discussing the auto/las pred.
