Being crowdsourced several console generations later, with a similar name, setting and load of mechanics, I urge you to check out Shadow of the Ancients if you ever played the GameCube classic "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem".

Drawing inspiration from the Cthulhu Mythos, Eternal Darkness told a story woven throughout human history of the struggles of a select few to keep the awakening of "the Ancients" from coming about. For anyone who was a fan of Lovecraftian horror, it was a dream come true, and (if you'll allow me to fanboy for a second...) a sequel might now be on it's way! Eeeeeek! :

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that Silicon Knights has a less-that-pristine background, and I urge people to do research on the company to see if it is something they want to invest in before they do so. I personally feel that Eternal Darkness deserves a sequel enough to justify my investment, but that is a personal decision.

I feel it's worth mentioning that Shadow of the Eternals is not a sequel. It is a spiritual successor.

It makes a difference, because the plot will not revolve around the same characters as in the first game. That is, there's no Mantorok, none of the traditional three Ancients, no Alexandra or her grandfather, Edward.

My Armies:
Kal'reia Sept Tau - Farsight Sympathizers
Da Great Looted Waaagh!

It does, however, feature the same sacred items, the same book and the same effects when using the magic of the book.

I personally consider it a sequel in all but name, due to licensing
