I'd love to go out and see the area myself some day... A friend of mine who's visited the area brought me back a small jar of ash. (you can still faintly smell the sulphur!)

Of course, of greater concern is Mt.Rainier as it's summit is capped by almost 2 dozen glaciers! Even a minor eruption there could be catastrophic as if the entire ice cap were to melt, it would unleash lahars that would pretty much wipe anything nearby off the map.

Then there's Yellowstone which is pretty much nothing more than nature's giant "F-you all!" button of impending doom...

I first saw Mt St Helens in 1981 or 82. (I was very young at the time) when we flew by it and the captain tilted the plane and announced it. It was still smoking and smoldering. It was an awesome sight that I should never forget.

I was at school when this happened.
Year 6 (primary - last year before we start High school).

Remember watching the news that night, though and seeing it.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
