Hey so I saw geek chic on shark tank last night and this was the first time I've heard about this company, my wife and I are in the market for a dining table and when I saw this I was amazed, she gave the ok to get it but looked at the delivery times 8-14 months.
Holy crap, does anyone know if there are compareble tables like this out there?
Thanks

To get the quality and customization you want? No, there is nothing out that I know of. Kevin himself said it, the furniture market died in North America 20 years ago. Also, you must not get to large gaming conventions, because Geek Chic has had a presence at both Origins and GenCon for at least the past 2 years .

Ya I saw them too and their prices were a little high but cool product. 8-14 months is just to long of a wait though.
Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
Hire a local craftsman, cabinet maker/furniture to make you one custom. Will probably cost you a bit less, and keeps your money supporting a local business.

I doubt it would cost less; my family does woodworking as a hobby, and we decided to purchase from Geek Chic rather than try & make it ourselves.
I have a Hoplite that I'm very happy with. Any quality (custom) solid wood furniture is going to cost you quite a bit; the wait really is the killer at this point, rather than the cost. I suppose you can use it to budget, though - start saving at the same time you put your deposit down, and your checking account should be ready at the same time you hit the top of the queue?

Any good joiner could do you a table like those.
Indeed. I would start looking for local craftsmen. Building a table with those types of features does not necessarily require an intimate knowledge of the specs. They are very nice tables and I have nothing bad to say about Geek Chic, but if you don't like the wait, you may be able to commission a custom piece that is similar.
Janthkin is right though, it'll cost an arm and a leg, and still would take a decent amount of time.

Excellent I had only been to Origins the past 2 years, and I saw a picture of them from GenCon 2 years ago while seeing them in person last year

These tables look amazing, the only thing it's made me want to do though is build my own. Obviously it won't be out of solid wood due to the cost but that's the same reason I wouldn't buy from Geek Chic.

I think the fact that they're using gorgeous, premium woods is one of the primary selling points for many people...
I'm a big fan of doing-it-- yourself, especially if you have any semblence of wood working skills and tools. A friend of mine has one of the colloseum tables and it is done in walnut. It is a massive and very nice looking table, but even if I had the $18,000 to dump into a table like that, I just couldnt do it. I'm in the process of building my own gaming table using select pine and other materials. Yeah, it wont have all the craftsmanship and be made with $6 a board foot walnut, but it will do.
In a few weeks I'm going to build a topper for the table so I can play board games and maybe even play some Pathfinder on it.

My friends have one. 11 month wait from purchase to delivery. Best table I've ever played on. Excuse after excuse for the delays in shipping, month after month.
If you're willing to wait a year, it's one hell of a table.

if not, I don't know who else to buy from.
Purchase, as in the transition from the wait queue to the construction queue?

Great video Jeff, and a proper mint table to boot.
Well done!
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

This. Those tables are certainly nice, but with a bit of legwork you can find just as good and cheaper (without the massive wait time).
You'd be amazed what you can do with some dressed pine, some quality wood glue, and a few clamps.
I'm stuck for space. I already have two man caves (one for painting, and tinkering with electronics, and one music studio). The boss won't let me build another for gaming, but I had a brainwave inspired by this thread.
I was already planning a 6'x4' acoustic diffuser for the apex roof of my studio. I'm now planning on mounting it on an electric winch, and having a gaming table on the top side, with some storage for a couple of layers of foam inside. I'm no master craftsman, but I've built a couple of electric guitars before, and know my way around a chisel. How hard can it be?
Hiring a professional carpenter and paying for the quality wood
might cost you about the same, if not more, I think.
At least that's what I heard on the Internet.
