Can someone explain to me how Dark Angels are a "good" shooty marine army?

I got offered all the Dark Angel starter stuff for $40...and I am thinking about it.

Thanks for any advice.

They've got access to a lot of shooting wargear, and wargear that will help shooting, like the special grenades on Ravenwing Knights. There's TONS of plasma in the army, especially on fast platforms like the aforementioned Ravenwing Knights, and there are things like the Standard of Devastation that boost shooting in their proximity. They're not a gunline army (although a core of Tactical Marines holding their ground would be smart) but are still very shooting-oriented.

Greenwing (Tactical Marines) can arguably make one of the best gunlines in the game using an ADL and Banner of Devastation. This allows and ungodly amount of bolter shots that will just drown much of anything outside of hordes. Don't pigeon them in with a Gun-Line though, you are still Space Marines so you need to keep mobile. A nice army based around Ravenwing can bring a ton of plasma and grenades while keeping mobile.

Their Marines are cheaper than Vanilla, not quite as cheap or good as GH's though. But, still much better than before. Scouts are 15 points cheaper overall than Vanilla, and are Troops now.

They have good Devastators, being able to bring a good unit of ML AA is a nice thing.

So would I be better off with Grey Knights or Dark Angels? Or are they about equal.

In what respect? GK is similar in strength to raven wing IMO. However the two armies play extremely different.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

GK has stronger shooting. DA has more shooting.
