I'm intrigued, but since picking up mortal kombat and finding out none if my friends play 2d fighters, or anything competitive for that matter, I just don't have much of a reason to pick up another fighter.

If you think of Blazblu as an anime fighter, then Guilty Gear is a heavy metal fighter by the same studio. Most of the characters are based off of puns on metal band members or songs, like Zappa and Axl Low.
Within this hilarious wrapper of bright, colorful characters and general silliness is wrapped game play so dense it has a learning cliff. Infinite loops, breakers, instant kills, cancels, Roman cancels, juggling and even 3 screen vertical juggling is not only possible, but required knowledge for competitive play. I'm not competitive, but I love the depth of the combat, and the sheer variety of characters.

The second trailer is out, I think. I found this after googling Xrd, but did not see it on Arc's website. If I am wrong, then enjoy the awesome fights!

The only characters they're every MAYBE taken away (and I can't remember any off the top of my head) are boss characters. Otherwise they've just built upon their characters. I've always been fond of Zappa myself. Been a while since I played GGXX ^Core+ though.
