Long story short, I've been playing many test games with necrons vs Tau and it's so far been a big beatdown for the squishy fliers vs skyfire riptides / broadsides and it's been pretty tough to take things down with 2+ armor (broadsides and riptides again) with even annhiliation barges.

I already use the wraithstar to some decent effect vs Tau but trying to find something to do for the shooting phase as well. Thinking I might even have to g back to doomsday ark (but I hate that I lose jink with that thing most of the time though I can just park it in some ruins I guess)

Should I throw more things into longer range shooting or maybe teleporting veiltek's and big blocks of tesla immortals?

I'm just not finding my air forces to do well. It's making me retire the doomscythe early lol. (maybe unconvert my ghost ark again)

What about allies? Think it's ever worth it?

Are you only focusing on the suits? I hear good things about Necrons easily wiping out Fire Warriors, thus ensuring the opponent can't win most of the mission games.

Otherwise, I was considering using a Despair-tek/Obyron to Veil over a shooty unit on turn one for an alpha strike.
Haven't tried it yet, but the theory seems sound (as long as the unit starts on the table it will be immune to Interceptor fire... it's just too bad the Riptide doesn't have hull points, otherwise a Storm-tek would have made short work of it).

My necrons have no issues killing Tau, then again, I am not an interweb list player. At most I will field 6 wraiths and 2 nightsythes. More than likely you are are suffering from the unupdated internet meta. You need bodies on the table. The riptide is the only unit in the entire tau army that is hard to deal with for necrons. Everything else can be easily taken down with volume of fire or Gauss.

To efficiently kill tau do as stated above and shoot scoring units with your gauss/tesla when and wherever possible. Once the scoring units are gone or hiding, you can win by plopping 5 warriors on a home objective most times. (Especially if you've gotten 1st blood from a pathfinder unit and slayed his ethereal warlord...as a common possible example).

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Yeah kill in order.

Pathfinders and Tetras
Then firewarriors
Then everything else.

The only time I may kill out of that order is if i get a good opertunity like an easy kill ethereal or a MSS charge on a riptide.

The tau pretty much fall apart when their ML's are gone.
