*Scroll down for list* Hey guys recently decided to get into flames of war and got the North Africa book and the German StuGs from old open fire and a grenadier platoon.

I am painting using GW colors and used camo green on the tunic and grave yard earth for the armor/helmets. I think the green is WAY to green and the brown might be a bit dark? What do you guys think? Any ideas for what colors work better?

Does it make sense to just use the same colors as they would have in Europe, the gray fatigues and keep the grave yard earth helmets? I want to be historically accurate. So any help is great. Any links to other info is also appreciated.

If I do go the gray route do you think GWs adminstratum gray and dark wash would work?

Thanks for any help!

GW paints whilst great, are not that good for Camo schemes.

I recommend you invest in Vallejo Model colour range.

I would buy this, it's probably $30 dollars or so?

If I were you, I would paint the trousers Camo Biege, and then drybrush the miniature with a lighter shade of stone, or Tan / Kharki.

Also, makesure the flesh is nice dark to give the look of Sun-tanned, darkened Troopers!

Almost looks like a modern US trooper circa 2000 , just add an M16 or M4. !

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

None of those StuG Gs in North Africa... So depends how accurate you want to be!

What you have their is a mid/late production Ausf G with the shot deflector and Schurzen.

Only 3 StuG C/Ds and 4 StuG F/8s where ever sent.

Sonderverband 288 had a platoon of three StuG III in its 5th Company, these were modified 'tropical' StuG IIIC/Ds with the short barrelled 75mm.

The other unit that had them in Tunisia was the 1st batterie of StuG Brigade 242 that fielded four StuG III F/8.

Think mwnciboo has covered the uniform angle...

Going off memory here, so I could be mistaken...

The original uniform was a sort of pale green, but not as vivid as the guy you've got painted. Maybe Deathworld Forest? Or Nurgling or Elysian (I dont have these 2 in front of me so they might not be appropriate). With a thinned wash of Agrax Earthshade, or maybe a thinned wash of Athon Camoshade (camoshade specificially for a paler green, like nurgling or ogryn or elysian)? I seem to recall that the green uniform faded in a matter of weeks, so a drybrush of Underhive Ash or Tyrant Skull might be appropriate as well. Boots were brown, with green fabric sides the same color as the uniform. Under the jacket, the shirt seemed to be a lighter color, maybe a khaki-green.

I believe they were later issued a khaki uniform, sort of a Zamesi Dust color pants and jacket, with a Zandri Dust helmet slip, shirt, and anklets. I have an Osprey DAK book with color plates that I'll dig out and double check tonorrow.

- Beaten to the punch by two people who likely know more about the war than I, please correct me if anything I've posted is incorrect! Also, check out Artizan's painting guides- they have a DAK one, and although it's 28mm it gives a good idea of one way of doing it.

@Stormfather

Thanks for the help! I may experiment and just add chaos black into the camp green but it may look to jungly. You may be right I need a more khaki look. As for the tank I want a much light color possibly ushabti bone but a bit more khaki. I decided the StuG looked a bit to dark.

@mwnciboo

Thanks for the post very helpful! So no tips for gw colors? I may just experiment but if it comes to it I'll try Vallejo but 30$ is money I would rather use to buy the models! Thanks for the pictures

@Big P

Good call just noticed that they are not available in any of the lists in the North Africa book. It says only two StuG's were in North Africa but both were knocked out by Tunisia. So looks like I will be reprinting gray and storing away because they won't have a place in my North Africa Infantry Company. Thanks!

I am pretty much brand new to the game and I was wondering what you guys thought of my first list using the North Africa book and the German Africa Rifle Company list. Me and my friend decided to start building in 500 point blocks. What do you guys think of my first block? Good to build upon? It seems a bit pricey, do I have to buy the trucks for each platoon? Also would the grenadier platoon models work to create the Schutzen platoon I need? I have the grenadier platoon and I'm hoping to be able to use it as Schutzen platoon sections even though they are MG teams. Do they work? Thanks for any help and please post some advice on the list!

List 500 points:

Company HQ
Command Panzerknacker

Total: 50

Afrika Schutzen Platoon
2 Schutzen Sections
Command Panzerknacker

Total: 140

Afrika Schutzen Platoon
2 Schutzen Sections
Anti-tank rifle team
Command Panzerknacker

Total: 160

3 Panzer II F

Total: 150

Thanks for any help!
