Ok I had a talk with this guy who urged me to use my skyray more in my battles.

his words "the seeker missile always uses the rear armor value of the target it is shooting just like the hunter killer missile"

now I only play Tau bit I am not big on seeker missiles...I dont use them much really. due to my fantastic ability of rolling 1's whenever its times to gamble on a seeker.

I am also fairly new to 6th edition so im more from the school of it hits the side of whatever direction its coming from.
its fairly possible I missed this tidbit in the codex with all that page flipping and backtracking but this sounds a bit offbeat to me...
the only explanation of seeker missiles I see in the codex has no mention of this, perhaps BRB?

please let me know if I am off track or if this is actually incorrect.

Thanks for your time lads,

There's no mention of it because it doesn't exist. If there was such a rule it would be a "Missile" USR or a "This always hits X armor" rule.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

I cant fined any thing about them hitting the Rear Armour. There is also nothing that states the Hunter Killers do either. I suppose if you have a unit of Pathfinders directly behined an enemy Tank, you could argue that the Missile will hit where they are aiming the marker light, but only if they are being guided by a marker light. But as said Unless there is a FAQ allready released for the Tau codex stating this. I would call BS on it.

All it says is Seeker Missiles are ONE-SHOT weapons usually guided to their target by marker lights, though they can be fired independently.

And Hunter killer missiles

A hunter-killer missile is an additional weapon, fired using the vehicle's Ballistic skill

Absolutly nothing about Always hitting the rear armour.

I did a quick flick through some of the codex's trying to find a ruling which states that hunter missiles hit rear armour and failed. Now it wasn't an in-depth search of every entry of every codex so I could be mistake. So where is it listed that hunter missiles hit rear?

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

A bit Devilfishy.....

There is no rule about HK hitting rear. Same with Seekers, they hit the armor facing where the missile comes from. Now, if your skyray is behind the target then the missile will hit rear facing same as any other weapon.

In the old codex seeker missiles were able to be fired ONLY by markerlight tokens (albeit any unit could 'call them in' if the markerlight was available). They always hit side armor and If i recall they didn't require line of sight.

It sounds to me like your friend's confusion about which armor facing seeker missiles hit comes from mixing old rules with new and getting some facts mixed up in between.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Did not require LOS, but hit what ever side they were fired from.
