I have several hundred of the old Mechwarrior Dark Age Clix robots from back when the game still was played. After the demise of that system, I kept them all and wanted to build a Tau army from them by rebasing, maybe spruce up with some Tau bits, and repaint. going throught the Codex, I see 4 suit types this can fit as, 5 if you count the fire warriors even though thats just armour. Nothing big enough to do riptides.

My question as I attempt to recycle these models into yet another 40k army (I already have 4 with a total of maybe 60 k points) is to ask if anyone familiar with both the Tau models and the Mechwarrior clix have any suggestions on which mexhs to use for which suits. i have my own ideas (and a bankers box of converts with another whole box possibly waiting) but if someone has a really cool idea here then I might use it. i am working on gaining VTOL pieces for drones.

I don't know if they ever made it to the Clix game, but the Word of Blake Archangel `Mech might make a good Crisis suit.

This is the metal model, but it should give you an idea of the body shape. Again, not sure if Wizkids ever made this for the clix game.

I can't think of any offhand that would be good as Tau suits, I played up until just about the end. Hmm. I'll have to ponder ponder, I'll look at the mechs tomorrow and see if any jump out at me.

I'm don't think there are any big enough to be riptides. I'm not even sure if they're large enough to be Battlesuits.

As for infantry and Steath Suits, I'd go with whichever mechs you have enough to make coherent squads out of.

As for drones, rather than buying even more VTOLs, you might be better off hacking up some and using the parts to make drones. Once cut apart, the Blocky MW bits are modular enough that you can make most anything from them.

Here's some spaceships (sorry about the crap picture) that I made a few years back. Completely from chopped up MW clix.

They are big enough for Battle-Suits and a few can make good Broadsides. You just want take a good look at each one to see how it will work. What’s left over talk to an Ork player, the Construction Mechs will give them lots of parts.

Or just get your hands on the scale converion to actual Battletech. It is a good system, especially on the mini's scale.

Longbows would make good stand-ins for Missile equipped broadsides. The Riflemen make good regular broadside standins (I used some Robotech kits for broadside stand ins in older edditions). Madcats, Warhammers (ppc to the face!), and Vultures could also work for this.

Some of the Thor's would work fine for regular battlesuits, as a jump capable battlemech. The pose is 'animated' enough for it. I don't think you'd fine a good firewarrior stand in, but stealth suit and up, yes.

Whoa. Great stuff in this thread. Well done, Dakka. My purpose here is to recycle this bunch of toys into an army that is playable in friendly games. I appreciate all the tips!

nothing close to riptides, but I am not above buying a couple of them to Tau the theme out. Tht idea on chopping mech bodies up for drones is heer genius. Thanks! I had even thought of recasting some VTOLs, but this should work handily. All hese Atlas clix I have should stand out as Broadsides pretty well I think.

Thors should work quite well, have half a dozen of those. Initially Ibwanted squads completely composed of the same chassis but now I am thinking that mixing them up some will look even better. For instance those Loki's that I only have three of will become squad leaders, etc... I Am trying to stick with chassis that are a bit iconic to me, or that I have epecially enjoyed over the years.
