I'm working on weathering a model, and I was thinking of attempting a mold effect. For the portions of the model that depict metal plates, I created an effect where the white paint was chipping off and there are many rust stains. If I were to just use green washes, I think this would muddle up the rust effect. The same goes for drybrushing green on. I thought about modelling green stuff patches on and painting them, but this always seemed too bulky to me.

The three ideas I have left are trying a green weathering powder, using a fine sand for texture with green paint or using fine turf. I haven't actually used fine turf for anything, so I'm not sure how it would look glued to a model. I've seen it used in pictures of scenic bases to represent mold on rocks and trees and it looks pretty good, though.

Does anyone have any advice for or experience in creating a realistic mold effect?

I think weathering powder should be enough.

most mold is ether black white or greenish. so mix a bit of those 3 but keep them separated if i recall black and white mold hate/attach each other.

edit: but affixing it i have no idea/ probably iso or glue then seal with varnish.
