I think this is right place to post this.. if not i appologize i was not sure
Like the title says... I went step by step and gives you options for various shipping choices. What do most people use for it and how do you determine shipping and handling prices to charge? Sorry if this is basic for some... i never done ebay before and sent many packages and not so tech savy so I thought i turn to some good people here at Dakka .
I am looing to sell of some of my warhammer stuff to get funds to continue the hobby and why i really never sold anything on ebay b4. I have heard some horror stories so I want to avoid that lol. Thanks in advance! .

You have 2 solid ways to ship and one grey way to ship. Flat rate and real shipping are solid. With flat rate the buyer knows what they will pay and you can list it. With real shipping you need to box it up and wiegh at home or go to the post and weigh it. I have done both flat and real shipping.
The grey method is to guess on the weight when you list it and hope you get close to the number it cost. IF you under guess the weight you lose money. If you over guess you may get an email asking for some money back. I have done grey shipping as well and sadly I have lost money.

Thank you I appreciate that advice . I decided to try the flat rate on the first go thru but I tacked on 5 bucks to what it said as I was not sure about it... I will likely throw in a surprise item in the box for the person that buys it so they get a pleasant surprise .
I had seen the rates and things before but having someone's imput like your own is very helpful at least to a ebay noob like me .

Try to be as accurate with the weight and cost as possible. Expect a lot less bids and or a lot less then you are expecting a item to sell for if the shipping is too high. If you have quite a bit to sell I would suggest getting a cheap electronic scale. I would not put more then $1 charge for packing material for miniatures and anything very large find out what a shipping box will cost first.

I have an ebay feedback of over1500, and from that I can tell you this. The farther away from you (zones ) the more it costs. So when say shipping from ga to cali, I already know it will be stupid high. Also if it weighs over 1lb it goes into a new price schedule which will not allow you to ship your package as cheaply. Always remember the usps flat rate boxes as well. They are a life saver especially when shipping alot of metal models where the weight adds up.

Calculate what the shipping would be to the furthest/most expensive point in the region(s) you're willing to ship to, then bake that into the minimum price/buy it now price you'll take for the item and say it has "Free Shipping".

Look into USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes. A small flat rate box ships for about $6, and fits a number of minis/bitz. A medium box may be too large for your needs, but those ship for about $13.
You can also ship First Class, but for that I recommend packaging up your bits and taking them to the post office to get an accurate shipping estimate.
Personally, if I'm buying used minis on eBay, I will not bid if I think the shipping is too high. I imagine that not too many people will bid on your stuff if they see that your shipping is set at flat rate+$5, even if you do include extra bitz - for one thing, it's impossible to tell that you'd be including the extra stuff.

This is what I do and it works out pretty well. I only charge shipping on stuff that won't/shouldn't sell for more than $50.
