Subject: Drop Pod 1850 pts list...

Hi,
I was thinking on trying a Drop Pod themed list. I know this isnt a "true" pod list, but I like the idea of Marines dropping from the sky to strike the enemy. Any advice would be nice as I havnt tried Pod lists before
HQ
100, Librarian w. Gate of Infinity + Force Dome or Null Zone?
TROOP
170, 10 x TAC w. flamer + ML
220, 10 x TAC w. Melta Gun, Multi Melta, Combi-Melta and Drop Pod.
90, 5 x Scouts w. Camo cloaks + Snipers
ELITES
290, 8 x Sternguard w. 1x Melta Gun, 3x Combi-Melta and Drop Pod
180, Ironclad Dreadnought, w. heavy flamer and Drop Pod
200, 5 x Terminators w. TH/ SS
FAST
250, 2 x Storm Talon w. Skyhammer Missiles
HEAVY
100, Thunderfire Cannon
250, Land Raider Redeemer w. Multi Melta
thats 1850 pts.
The Scouts infil, hopefully in ruins bolstered by the Tech Marine.
TFC, well hopefully shoots something
And depending on the enemy, run the terminators or the TAC in the Land Raider. Maybe Ill keep the TAC in reserves so they dont die if enemy have turn 1.
Pod the Ironclad close to enemy Tank/ MC and either kill it or deny movement.
Pod the Sternguards w. Librarian to shoot some xenos and maybe GOI away.
The Talons gives me some movement across the board, helping squads or keeping enemy fliers busy.
I know it isnt that powerfull, but like the theme
regards¨

Okay here's my take on the list:
I like it, it's definitely an interesting start, but there are some issues for competitiveness (this advice is only for making the list perform more dangerously, if you don't like it from a fluff standpoint, please ignore it!)
1) Tac marines with no vehicle.
Okay this is a really big problem imo. Despite their apparent beefyness, marines die in droves when they footslog. Particularly C:SM marines. They don't have the special toys of the other codices, they don't do well walking up a field. They always need a container, and in this case a drop-pod is probably what you're looking for. Be sure to get them at least a rhino, if not something more.
2) Sternguard
An oft forgot fact of C:SM is that the drop pod can hold 12 models. Don't keep the sternguard at 9! Unless you want them in a rhino with the libby, make them 10! When you drop pod them, you get twice the bang for your buck if you drop 10, with the option to combat squad if need be.
I also HIGHLY recommend only using combis on the sternguard. Their special issue ammo is SOOO good that you really have to justify their HW selection. Are you going to use that melta more than once on a vehicle? If not, use a combi-melta and keep the special issue ammo. The only thing I'd recommend, perhaps, is one or two HFs, just because it can do some real damage in funky ways when you fire it from a rhino. Without that, though, keep them combis.
I also recommend adding some combi-flamres (as they can be really helpful in spots).
3) The Terminators
Due to the nature of deep striking, Assault termies need a chariot to take them to battle. They should always use a land raider. Throwing them down in the middle of the field invites the enemy to shoot them to oblivion. Don't let 2+/3++ fool you; it's potent but very weak against massed shooting. AND enemy CC specialists charging them. If the Termies are bogged down by an expendable CC unit, they're pretty much useless for the rest of the round. A dedicated LR gets them to the battle well.
If you want to use termies and keep a deepstrike feel, I recommend Tactical termies. Cheaper than a LR + Assault Termies, deep strike in (and can be very scary with a few tele homers ensuring they have a nice landing), and portable fire-power anywhere on the field. Esp. when you infiltrate some scouts on the field and then send some termies to support them.
4) Ironclad Dreadnoughts
I'm not a big fan of Ironclads in drop pod assault; they're potent but also expensive, and the 6 ed. rules have made walkers much less scary. A single MM/HF dread is cheaper, probably can do more, and has a better chance to make up it's points after landing (and popping a tank/flaming a unit) than an ironclad.
5) Overall Impressions
Overall the list has 3 drop pods. 3 drop pods are nice, but not enough to make this a drop pod list. Unless you can really amass the drop pod assault and knock out enough of the enemy to support the continued attack, you're not going to succeed.
Really the difficulty of a drop pod list is that it requires amassive drop pod assault. 3 to 4 pods landing at once first turn is a typical drop pod assault, with 2-3 more in reserve. If not more. Things like TFC and other long-range heavy support are left in the back field as support. Other Deep striking units (such as the stormtalons and tac termies) can be used to help.
It really is an extreme style of play, and it opens you up to some real challenges. It's very exciting, but also intimidating. You really have to devote yourself to the strategy. This list, currently, is not devoting itself enough.

Take teleport homers on the pods so that you can gate of infintiy about the board without scattering. If you are taking a librarian in drop pod lists with the gate this needs to be done - its just rude not to.

Thanks for the comments Guys! I love when Fellow players take their time to give some useful wisdom!!
Ive swapped some units around, lets see:
Libby
10xTAC, drop pod
10xTAC, drop pod
5x Scouts
regular Drednought, drop pod
10xSternguard, 10 combi weapons (melta/flamers) drop pod
5xTerminators, assault cannon
2xStorm Talons
1x TFC, drop pod
1x TFC
Im a Little worried getting tabled if enemy get Turn 1, with only 2 units on the table :( Maybe I should find 90 points and get another Scout squad?
And is this list legal with only 2 units on the board, and 3 in reserves?
Maybe I should drop one DropPod TAC and get them on the board ?
And regarding the beacons, is it legal to use with GoI?
thanks Again mate.

GoI does work with beacons. Your are legal. And remember the tabling if you have nobody on the board is at the end of game turns, no players, so you get a wave of pods down before that gets checked.
I'm not a huge fan of dropping pods empty just for the first turn numbers. It's a 35 point tax I'd rather not pay. I might drop the second TFC with a pod and take a ADL with a comm relay. While this takes you away from the optimal odd number of pods, it helps get the ones you took, plus the rest of your forces in reserves, on the table sooner. If you want to move a little farther away from drop pod to hybrid, drop the pod from the second tac and give them better long range weapons (full plasma?) If will also free up some points for more toys and beacons.
If you really want to play with some GoI beacon tricks, grab a scout bike squad.
Overall I like your list, looks fun. Mostly just tweaking for preferences.

Cool with GoI and beacons
But I didnt plan on drop emty pods, I dont know which one you are refering to?
I know the 2nd TFC could be swapped, but I love the idea of dropping it behind enemy lines and blast away with TFC´s from two sides
The ADL would be a good choice though. But I could Loose the TFC and the Libby and get Varro Tigurius, would let me re-roll reserves and get a better Libby....
Or Cassius to go with the Sternguard and soak some shots with his T6.
Not a fan of Bikes, so negative on that one
but thaks for the advice

My mistake. Normally when you see Devs/TFCs with pods, they drop empty to boost the first turn wave, while blasting away the whole game from cover. Loosing a turn of fire because you had to drop on the table is not a good option IMHO. Of course, you still have the option to drop in the pod if the table/opponent requires it.
Tigurius is a bit overpriced, but he does work. Might be worth experimenting with.
Cassius is a very thematic fit with sternguard. Mechanically, he's not the best match, being a CC guy in a shooty squad. But you have to love the him...

Just want to say that fighting a pod list is not fun but when BOTH armies are pod lists it is hilarious as he who goes second can usually win due to getting to shoot first.

Looks interesting. My C:SM Drop Pod lists always turn into Pedro Kantor spamming Sternguard.
I'd be worried about only having 3 scoring units however (I know, Combat Squads, but still). 5 Scouts are fragile, even with Camo Cloaks. A Heavy Flamer would ruin their day very easily, and there are a lot of ways to get one there: Land Speeders, Obliterators, DS Terminators, Chimeras. I'd be worried about them lasting 5 turns.
