I have been seeing some interesting basing for figures. Just use plain old semi gloss black on the whole base. It helps to keep you eye on the mini not on the base. Also they can be used on any board.

What do you think?

I used to be all for black bases and I did try glossing bases for my Iron Warriors. To be honest it looked ok, not great. I started basing my Necromunda figures with simple debris and realised how much it completes the mini. I went back and re-based my Iron Warriors and glad I did.

On that note, with my Infinity range I have used perspex bases which I feel really gives the models a bit of flare and stands out with the rest of my miniature collection.

At the end of the day its your army, set them up the way you want.

The problem is that it won't look like a model, just a toy soldier on a cheap plastic disc... A well done base completes the miniature, giving the viewer the impression that the model belongs in the environment.

Until you're playing on desert terrain with snowy bases

Whatever looks good to you, there's probably a lot of people who like to have plain bases. Unlike some of them you're at least putting in the effort to clean it up after. But, another thing you could do is track down some clear 25mm plastic discs to use as bases. Might get the effect you're after even more.
