If the same price hike were to happen to Marines (or, say, Guard which I play much more of) it wouldn't mean much to me, as I mostly buy FW these days; they're becomming cheaper by the day relatively speaking with GW's pricing structure.

If I were a newer player, or starting a new version of army x, these price changes would simply encourage me to make a more elite-centric army. Mechvets for Guard, minimum troops for Marines, more Vanguard, Sternguard, Termies, Tanks, etc. Essentially, I'd look to maintain a decent value for my money translating into points in-game. Kind of a shame really, as I like horde armies, and the diversity between hordes and elites is one of the interesting dynamics in 40k that works well gameplay wise.
